At CES in Las Vegas this January, most manufacturers announced that their 4K Blu-rays and 4K Blu-ray players wouldn't be available until spring 2016. But Samsung, ever eager to be first to market with the next big thing, has (thankfully) jumped the gun a little.
{{amazon name="Samsung Electronics UBD-K8500 4K Blu-ray Player", asin="B01A9V6OI6", align="right"}} The company announced today that its first-ever 4K/UHD Blu-ray player, the UBD-K8500, is out and ready to purchase.
The K8500 carries a high price tag at some $399, but considering it's the first of its kind to hit stores, that's actually a pretty reasonable ask. With the new player, owners of newer 4K/UHD TVs will finally be able to watch non-streaming, non-upscaled Ultra HD content, taking advantage of 4K's massive pixel count.
Or, rather, they'll be able to once 4K Blu-ray discs are available to buy; launch titles for 4K Blu-ray are still in the pre-order stage. The wait continues...
