Fishing is an excellent way to get out of the house, away from the screens, and out into nature. Whether you’re fishing from shore, waist-deep in a river, or from a boat, it’s a wonderful way to spend a few hours. While there’s nearly no end to the supplies and gear you could get, all you need to get started are a rod, a reel, and a few lures and hooks.
Different reels are going to work best for different applications and levels of experience. Spincaster reels are the most basic—you cast by holding and then releasing a button on the reel. Anyone, even children, can learn to use a spin caster in a few minutes. Spinning reels are a bit more complicated, requiring holding and then releasing the line itself at the right time for your cast. However, they are more accurate and can cast farther than spin casters. Finally, flyfishing and baitcaster reels are better reserved for more experienced anglers, as they each take some practice and skill to use, but will be able to land larger fish.
Whatever your experience level, there’s a rod and reel ready to get you out on the water fishing.
