Can Hoover's $99 cordless vacuum clean up?
Better, but not good enough.
The Hoover LiNX Signature (MSRP $149) is the storied company's latest attempt at a cordless upright. When we first tested the vanilla LiNX, we were disappointed by its weak dirt pickup and hefty body. It was especially confusing since Hoover also makes the excellent Air 2-in-1, a better vacuum for the price.
This time around, the Signature greatly increased its dirt pickup. During testing, it suctioned up 63% of the dirt we left out for it– three times as much as the old LiNX.
Unfortunately, that's really the only improvement. The battery has remained the same, a three-hour charge for 17 minutes of powered brush cleaning. The newer LiNX hasn't slimmed down either, tipping the scales at 7.3 pounds and one of the heaviest cordless vacuums we've tested to date.
So while the Signature is definitely better, it's still not enough to earn our recommendation. At 7.3 pounds, this Hoover is still outdone by much lighter models made by Dyson and Kenmore.
Plus, of all the cordless vacuums that the LiNX outperformed, the vast majority of them featured a handheld unit. If you include all upholstery and countertops you can clean with a handheld vacuum, the Signature falls by the wayside.
If you're going to be a one-trick pony, you better be the best at it. Unfortunately, the Signature does not stand out.
