When taking multiple medications, it can often be more convenient and less confusing to store them in a pill organizer. This is especially true when you have many different medications, when you take them at different times a day, and/or when some are taken at different intervals than others.
Pill organizers are a cheap, easy-to-use way to track your medications correctly. They’re also perfect for saving suitcase space while traveling and in providing an easier way to access medications for those with reduced dexterity from arthritis, carpal tunnel, and more.
We purchased 10 of the best pill organizers available right now and tested them to see which provided the best experience to suit specific needs. The Muchengbao Travel Pill Organizer (available at Amazon) came out on top in our testing for its compact size and double-locking features, but there are many more options to match one’s medical needs and physical capability.

What You Should Know About Buying The Best Pill Organizer
When choosing the best pill organizer for you, it’s important to select one that fits your individual needs. Their purpose is to help make your life easier while keeping your medicine secure and organized. Any organizer you choose to purchase should help accomplish these goals.
Some questions to ask yourself when trying to decide what qualities matter most to you and/or your loved one while shopping are:
- How likely is the organizer to be dropped?
- How often will it be traveling out of the house and why?
- Is a weekly or monthly organizer best suited for the user’s needs?
- How many times a day do pills need to be taken?
- Does the user need spots for “as needed” pills?
- How much hand strength and dexterity does the user have?
- How big and/or high contrast does labeling need to be in order to be easily, accurately, and consistently read?
Once you have the answers to these questions, it’s easy to sift through the above list to find some great options for each need. At the end of the day, there will never be a universally perfect pill organizer, because people have vastly different goals when using one. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t find a pill organizer that’s perfect for you.
Are Pill Organizers FSA Eligible?
Many pill organizers are FSA eligible, but the ruling is not absolute. Based on Amazon’s listings, here are the organizers we’ve tested that are FSA eligible.
-
Auvon Weekly Pill Organizer For Arthritis
- Sukuos AM PM Weekly 7 Day Pill Organizer 2 Times A Day
- Sukuos Weekly Pill Organizer 7 Day 2 Times a Day
- Auvon iMedassist Moisture-Proof Weekly Pill Organizer 4 Times a Day
- Se7en-Day Weekly Pill Organizer
With lots of possible variations in play, make sure to read store pages carefully to determine if the product you’d like to buy is FSA eligible.
Can I Bring a Pill Organizer on a Plane?
Yes, for the most part. According to the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, pills are not required to be in their original packaging when traveling on a plane.
However, local laws within specific states may require travelers to either use a prescription bottle or have a means on hand to prove the prescription is valid. Check with local airports to get the most accurate travel information for your state.
How We Test the Best Pill Organizers
During the drop test, the TookMag was undamaged after being dropped on carpet but took significant damage when dropped on concrete.
We test and rank pill organizers based on aspects like how securely they prevent accidental medication spills, how easy they are to open and close, durability, and how easy the labels are to read, understand, and use. Each organizer is opened and closed by multiple people in a variety of ways to determine which requires more finger or hand strength.
We also perform a drop test for each organizer, dropping it multiple times on carpet and then on concrete. For those with an outer case, we test both the case’s durability and the inner compartments for those that were able to be removed for travel or convenience. In the future we plan to test more pill organizers and assess them in accord with Reviewed standards.
