Air fryers have become more popular in recent years due to the safety, convenience, and health benefits they offer versus deep fryers.
Air fryers come in a variety of sizes at widely varying price points. Many can do double or even triple-duty as a toaster, slow cooker, or pressure cooker. With so many brands offering a variety of air fryers, deciding on which one to buy can be daunting. To make your life a little easier, we’ve put together a list of 12 of the most popular air fryers we’ve tested.
1. Our favourite air fryer: Philips Airfryer XXL
In our tests, the Philips Airfryer was the easiest to use and produced the best results of any machine, which made it a clear choice for our best overall air fryer. We especially liked the XXL model, which is big enough to cook for a whole family. It is on the pricier side and both noisier and heavier than many other fryers we tested. But you’ll likely find these trade-offs acceptable if you’re after the crispiest, tastiest food possible.

2. For cooks on a budget: Cuisinart Compact AirFryer
Cuisinart’s AFR-25 Compact AirFryer isn’t just a good value, it will also blend in better than other air fryers on your countertop, as many other air fryers tend to employ more unusual shapes than standard kitchen appliances. Most importantly, it produced great results, and we found the air fryer to be easy to use in our tests. It can be a bit difficult to clean, however, and not all of the parts are dishwasher safe.

3. A Jack-of-all-trades: Cuisinart AirFryer Toaster Oven
This combination air fryer and toaster from Cuisinart is a great way to save some space (and money). Both the air fryer and toaster settings performed well in our tests, and there’s ample room inside for cooking large meals. As with Cuisinart’s AFR-25 Compact Air Fryer, however, the parts aren’t dishwasher-safe, which can make clean up a bit more time-consuming.

4. Does double-duty as a dehydrator: Ninja Air Fryer
The Ninja Air Fryer was another top performer in our tests, although it didn’t get fries quite as crispy as the Philips Airfryer. It is more affordable, however, and has digital controls that give you more settings to choose from when cooking, including roasting and dehydrating. As a bonus, its nonstick basket can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

5. An air frying triple threat: Ninja Foodi
If you’re more interested in a pressure cooker or slow cooker than a toaster oven, the Ninja Foodi might be a better combination unit for you than the Cuisinart AirFryer Toaster Oven. Each of the Ninja Foodi's functions performed as well as a standalone appliance in our tests. That said, the settings for so many different cooking styles all in one interface can make operating the Ninja Foodi a little complicated.

6. A small and stylish air fryer: Dash Compact Air Fryer
This air fryer from Dash is more compact and stylish than most of the other units we looked at. It’s a great option as long as you aren’t looking to cook more than a half-pound of food at a time. The simple dial controls, while less than precise, are easy to use, and its basket is both nonstick and dishwasher-safe.

7. A large air fryer/toaster oven: Breville Smart Oven Air
The Breville Smart Oven Air is a toaster oven, air fryer and a convection oven that can handle anything but but the largest meals. The Oven Air’s air fryer setting worked well in our tests and produced consistently crispy food. However, you will have to hand wash all of the parts when you’re finished—nothing is dishwasher-safe.

8. An air fryer with accessories: GoWISE USA 8-in-1 Air Fryer XL
GoWISE’s Air Fryer XL lets you cook plenty of food at once and has digital controls that allow for a range of different cooking settings. Unlike some other units, it doesn’t require preheating, and the basket is nonstick and dishwasher-safe—we did find it a bit tricky to remove, though. The fact that this air fryer ships with inserts for cooking pizza, baking, and grilling makes it that much more of a tempting buy.

9. An inexpensive option: Black & Decker Crisp 'N Bake Air Fry Toaster Oven
Black & Decker Crisp 'N Bake Air Fry Toaster might not have the high-end good looks of the Cuisinart and Breville ovens on this list, but it produced great baking and airfrying results during testing. Unfortunately, while the crumb tray is dishwasher-safe, the rest of the unit can be a bit difficult to keep clean.

10. A versatile air fryer: Power Air Fryer XL
The Power Air Fryer XL is fairly affordable, can hold an ample amount of food and boasts digital controls that offer a range of preset cooking settings for different types of food. Its basket that can be difficult to remove. Once you have it out, however, it's easy to clean in the dishwasher.

11. An air fryer with a rotisserie: Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer
The Instant Vortex Plus comes from the makers of the widely-popular Instant Pot. However, its controls were the most confusing to use of any air fryers we tested (and the manual unfortunately doesn’t offer much help). On the upside, it does include a rotisserie and a bright interior light that many air fryers lack, and it can deliver good results once you figure out how to use it.

12. A large-capacity air fryer: NuWave Brio Digital Air Fryer 6 Quart
With a six-quart capacity, the NuWave Brio Digital Air Fryer is one of the largest air fryers we looked at, but it didn’t cook evenly in our tests and produced noticeably less crispy food than most of the other machines we tested. Its digital controls and preset settings do make it relatively easy to use, however, and the manual is helpful with plenty of recipe ideas, to boot.
