Alva’s ceramic cookware set focuses on the essentials: even heating, easy cleanup, and pieces you’ll use often.

The Alva Maestro 9-Piece ceramic nonstick cookware set is a Belgian-designed cookware collection focused on non-toxic materials, even heating, and everyday versatility. It's built around a forged aluminum core, and the coating is free from PFAS, PTFE, PFOA, lead, and cadmium. The set is compatible with all cooktops—including gas, electric, and induction stovetops—and is oven-safe up to 400°F.

What's included

  • 8-inch fry pan
  • 11-inch fry pan with glass lid
  • 2-quart saucepan with metal lid
  • 4-quart sauté pan with glass lid
  • 4.5-quart stockpot with metal lid

How we tested

We put this Alva ceramic nonstick cookware set through our rigorous testing procedures. From simmering a pot of rice to sautéing vegetables and making a pan sauce, we tested for hot spots and monitored nonstick performance throughout the cooking process.

We fried eggs to watch for sticking. We made scrambled eggs and an omelet, and closely evaluated the maneuverability and ease of handling each pan. We also seared and pan-roasted bone-in chicken thighs, browned turkey tenderloins, and plant-based burgers to assess heat-transfer consistency across the pans.

Finally, we took notes on the ease of cleaning each piece, including the glass and metal lids.

What we like

The coating is truly nonstick and high-performing

The nonstick ceramic coating on this cookware aced all of our tests, especially when it came to releasing fried eggs and creating a great sear on proteins. The heavy base conducts heat exceptionally well, while the slick coating releases food effortlessly.

Sticky rice was no match for the saucepan, with zero sticking or charring. Sautéed mushrooms in the 11-inch fry pan browned beautifully, and the fond melted instantly into a pan sauce.

The ceramic coating was also exceptionally easy to clean. A light swipe of soap on a soft sponge removed the minimal food residue left in the pans after cooking.

The manufacturer doesn't recommend putting this set in the dishwasher, but since it's so effortless to clean, we don't see handwashing being an issue.

Even heating creates a great sear

This set manages to go beyond typical nonstick limits, delivering solid searing and consistent browning.

Nonstick cookware rarely creates a hard sear, but the aluminum core and stainless steel base plate in this Alva cookware heat evenly and distribute heat well enough to impart consistent, deep browning.

We were impressed with the even browning of the plant-based burgers and the crispness of the chicken skin on the seared thighs.

The set has versatile pieces for complete cooking

We appreciate cookware sets that come with spacious skillets, and this set has two—in 8-inch and 11-inch sizes—plus a glass lid for the 11-inch fry pan. With two sauce pots plus a large sauté pan, this set can cook any meal.

We appreciate that the set comes with four lids, although we would have liked them all to be glass. The two metal lids are likely more economical but block visibility during cooking.

What we don't like

The pans are heavy

While we appreciate the build quality and durability of this set, the fry pan and sauté pan are heavy to maneuver on the stovetop. When full of food, these pans can be even more challenging to move from the stove to the oven.

While the handles stayed relatively cool during cooking, we still relied on nonslip grips to move pots full of food and avoid holding onto warm handles for too long.

The sides of the fry pan are too straight for sautéing

If you like to flip your food while cooking, the straight sides of the fry pan may hinder your performance. We prefer skillets with more sloped sides so ingredients can easily fall back into the pan when sautéing.

The skillet's heft also makes it harder to maneuver during cooking. We had to stick with spatulas and tongs to move ingredients during testing.

Warranty

The build quality makes this cookware line sturdy and durable, which is likely why it's backed by a 10-year warranty.

Should you buy the Alva ceramic nonstick cookware set?

Yes, especially if you're comfortable with heavier pans

If you're looking for a durable ceramic nonstick cookware set that provides excellent performance at a good value, the Alva Maestro set (available at Amazon for $599.00) is a great choice.

Where these pans lack maneuverability, they shine in even cooking and heat distribution. This versatile set provides all the pieces you need for complete cooking and easy cleanup.

However, if you're looking for a lighter, easier-to-maneuver set, check out our favorite ceramic nonstick set, the GreenPan Valencia Pro Ceramic Nonstick Set, which comes with more pieces and all glass lids.
