We've already had a taste of Dacor's Discovery iQ wall oven back during CES 2013. At CES Unveiled yesterday, Dacor revealed a cooking range utilizing that same smart technology. With its integrated, wireless-enabled tablet, the Discovery iQ 48" Dual-Fuel Range is a logical expansion to Dacor's Discovery iQ line.
The Dacor iQ Controller, which first appeared on the Wall Oven, makes a return on the Dual-Fuel Range. Now empowered by the new Dacor iQ Cooking Application, users can do things like watch cooking tutorials from the range, set it to automatically switch to a warming mode and inform the user via text when a meal is done, or even control the range and make adjustments remotely from a smartphone or tablet.
Dacor explained that they are using smart technology to actually improve the appliance, rather than to simply stick an Android tablet on it and call it "smart." More and more manufacturers are coming up with ways to get appliances connected, and Dacor wants that connection to actually matter. With the amount of additional functionality that gets enabled by the Dacor iQ Controller and iQ Cooking Application, we'd say they're heading in the right direction.
While the highlight of the Dual-Fuel Range is certainly its smartness, it didn't exactly skimp on the other perks:
The range features two electric ovens offering 10 cooking modes, a gas cooktop featuring 14-inch wide grates, Soft-Close door hinges to prevent slamming, and GreenClean Steam Technology for self-cleaning
The Discovery iQ 48" Dual-Fuel Range is priced at $11,999 MSRP and will be available in the U.S. in June 2014.
