I commit a lot of my free time to trekking up long, steep trails to the summits in the White Mountains. After a while, I knew it was time to invest in gear that would make my days in the backcountry more comfortable. Ideally, lightweight gear is best, so I decided to transition from my heavy hiking boots to lightweight trail runners.

When I put on the Hoka Speedgoat 5 for women (available at Amazon) for the first time, I instantly knew that my feet were meant to meet them. Wearing these lightweight shoes on the trail feels like you’re flying. Plus, their comfort and sturdy grip on all types of terrain is hard to beat.

Why are these my favorite Hoka trail running shoes?

From climbing steep, rocky terrain to running on flat trails, these Hoka running shoes have consistently exceeded my expectations. They have a breathable mesh upper and textile lining, as well as a foam padded insole for all-day comfort. Their EVA foam in the midsole blocks shock and offers great stability. Plus, they have 5-millimeter rubber legs that I have learned to trust overtime while hiking along slippery roots and rocks (although you should still proceed with caution and carry a pair of trekking poles).

The only downside is their durability. On average, the Hoka Speedgoat 5 shoes seem to only last a season or two, but I'd much prefer to feel comfortable on every hike I embark on over having an average pair of shoes that last a little longer.
