If you consider yourself in the know about headphones, you've probably heard of (or even hopefully heard) Sony's excellent WH-1000XM3 over-ear noise canceling headphones. The WH-1000XM3 are our favorite headphones in just about every category, so today's announcement from Sony about their successor, the Sony WH-1000XM4 has us more than a little excited.
Sony's WH-1000XM4 will be available in mid-August starting at $349.99. We've already got a review sample en route from Sony, but won't be able to comment on performance or features until we get some time with it. However, if you're ready to buy them now, simply follow our links below.
Along with the same brilliant active noise cancelling processor as their predecessor, the QN1, new features for the WH-1000XM4 include pairing to multiple devices and the ability to auto-pause music when you speak. In keeping with the same business-like design as the WH-1000XM3, the XM4 will be available in Black and Silver.
While we're not entirely sure how useful the new features are yet, we're intrigued—these headphones have some impressive pedigree, after all. Sony is also continuing to utilize its intelligent Adaptive Sound Control system, a function that automatically tracks what you're doing (sitting, walking, running, commuting) and adjusts it (alongside measurements of barometric pressure) to deliver the best combination of noise canceling and audio fidelity.
The new XM4 over-ears should be available for purchase by mid-August, but you can pre-order them today from select retailers. Stay tuned at Reviewed for our full hands-on review, and to see if the new XM4 stand up against the legendary XM3.
