BloomsyBox delivers fresh flowers to my door every month—and I'm obsessed

BloomsyBox is a flower delivery service that doesn't disappoint

I am a huge fan of flowers. I can’t actually plant them, but I can distinguish between a calla lily and a hydrangea, and on a good week, I remember to water them. And you can bet I hope to receive them on Valentine's Day, despite the fact I'll tell my husband I don't want anything. But as much as I love receiving and displaying flowers, you won’t find me at the florist—more likely, I’ll pick up a small bouquet at the grocery store once a month when they have a batch that looks particularly appealing.

Thankfully, there are services for people like me—the ones who enjoy filling vases, but remain at the mercy of their local grocery store’s flower selection. We love testing subscription boxes, whether we’re looking for the best subscription wine club or the best meal kit delivery service. This time, we’re putting BloomsyBox to the test and delving into fun new territory: flower delivery services.

If you're searching for the perfect Valentine's Day gift, you're likely already thinking about the best flowers you can buy online. So many of us have received a poor flower delivery, and if you haven’t, you’ve likely heard horror stories from people who have. No one likes receiving flowers that are wilted, half-broken, or delivered three days late—especially if they cost a small fortune to order in the first place. We were excited to put BloomsyBox to the test and see if its delivery service stood up to the challenge. Because BloomsyBox claims to locally source their flowers, we selected two cities—Nashville and Boston—and delivered two boxes to see if the quality, size, or delivery would change depending on location.

What is BloomsyBox?

BloomsyBox will deliver flowers weekly or monthly for subscribers.

BloomsyBox is a flower subscription service that delivers locally sourced flowers. You can opt to receive boxes on a weekly or monthly basis, and you can adjust your delivery settings at any time, so if you sign up for weekly deliveries and realize you suddenly have more flowers than you know what to do with, you can dial back the deliveries.

Unlike other flower delivery services, BloomsyBox sticks to one type of flower at a time, so instead of offering mixed-flower bouquets, you get just one type per bunch. They aim to partner with sustainable farms around the globe, so the single-flower model seems like a smart one—by just delivering one type of flower per bouquet, they can ensure you’re only receiving flowers that are in season.

On its website, BloomsyBox also notes that its flowers are so fresh, they may be delivered as buds, allowing the flowers to fully bloom once they’re in your hands.

BloomsyBox has a section where you can purchase one-off bouquets as well, providing an alternative to big-name flower delivery websites. But you need to order well in advance (one week minimum) if you want flowers delivered by your date. They also only deliver flowers from Tuesday to Friday, making it perfect for Valentine's Day (just make sure you order in advance).

But it doesn’t seem like the one-off delivery service is the target market for BloomsyBox—if you’re looking at a flower delivery service, chances are you want regular flower deliveries, and in this area, BloomsyBox shines.

When it comes to flower delivery services, BloomsyBox shines.

How do you order flowers from BloomsyBox?

The BloomsyBox website is easy to use and order from.

Navigating BloomsyBox’s website is surprisingly easy. They keep everything straightforward, which I absolutely love—some flower websites are so convoluted, it’s hard to determine what you’re purchasing and why.

If you enjoy a high level of customization when picking your flower arrangements, BloomsyBox is not for you. There’s no quiz asking your favorite buds or ability to select which arrangements you’ll receive in shipments—you’re at the mercy of BloomsyBox and its farmers, meaning you may receive a flower type you don’t love in one of your boxes.

BloomsyBox also recently partnered with Martha Stewart to deliver flowers curated by her team within specialized subscription boxes.

The subscribe page breaks down packages by weekly and monthly plans. It details the flower delivery types and pricing, which include:

Weekly bouquet ($44.99): This is BloomsyBox’s most frequent flower delivery, sending users a different bouquet every week. At nearly $180 per month, this is not a plan I would recommend unless you’re already spending that amount on flowers or happen to just really love them.

Bi-weekly bouquet ($49.99): This option sends bouquets every other week, providing a fresh influx of new flowers on a regular basis. It comes out to about $100 a month, so it’s still a bit pricey, but if you love flowers and tend to purchase bouquets this frequently, this could be worth the investment.

Monthly original ($39.99): We tested the Bloomsy Original Box, which came with one dozen roses. This is the “small” box option on the site, and for me, it was perfect—it looked great on our office’s kitchen table and on my desk. The site notes this arrangement may include the following flowers: hydrangeas, roses, gerberas, dendrobium orchids, minicallas, and lillies.

Monthly deluxe ($49.99): BloomsyBox notes that this is their most popular selection. This is the “medium” option, offering a slightly larger bouquet than the original box and may feature a slightly different variety of flowers: spray roses (which are apparently different from regular roses?), alstromerias, tulips, sunflowers, tropicals, and irises. This bouquet lists my two favorite flowers—irises and tulips—so I’d likely spring for this bouquet when trying the service for myself.

Monthly premium ($54.99): This bouquet is the largest available on BloomsyBox. The site explains these bouquets contain the most robust variety of flower types, such as freesia, peonies, lisianthus, hydrangeas, roses, and callas. For me, this bouquet would be too big to receive each month—I live in a small home with cats who love to eat flowers. But for someone who has more space and loves displaying large bouquets, this could be a great option.

Martha Stewart Flowers ($49.99–$59.99): In addition to the BloomsyBox options, you can also purchase a monthly subscription box of roses curated by Martha Stewart. They come in three options: small (12 stems), medium (18 stems), and large (24 stems). You’re more limited with this collection—you’ll only get roses, and each box is $5–10 more expensive than the BloomsyBox alternative, but if you absolutely love this flower type, the extra few bucks could be worth the investment.

The size of the Bloomsy Original Box bouquet felt perfect for our space.

If you’re more interested in purchasing a one-off bouquet, you can navigate to the “shop” tab and pick out roses from the Martha Stewart collection or mixed bouquets from BloomsyBox. The roses from Martha Stewart cost $39.99 and come in a wide range of color options, while the bouquets from BloomsyBox range from $29.99 to $49.99 and span a variety of flower types.

The prices for individual bouquets are pretty good compared to local florists and big-name online flower delivery services, and based on our experience with the subscription box, we’d absolutely recommend giving them a try—but, as with all good things, there’s a catch. BloomsyBox only delivers Tuesdays through Fridays, so for any holidays or birthdays that fall on the weekend, you’re out of luck.

How did you test BloomsyBox flower deliveries?

We tested BloomsyBox in two different cities to get the best results.

We signed up for two subscription plans from BloomsyBox: a Bloomsy Original Box monthly delivery to Boston, and a Bloomsy Original Box monthly delivery to Bellevue, Tennessee. BloomsyBox says it sources from local sustainable farms around the country, so we wanted to put that to the test—would a farm up North deliver different flowers than a farm down South? And would the quality be different when delivered to a big city versus a small town?

I also wanted to test how easy it would be to cancel my subscriptions—the site notes that it’s as easy as one click, making it incredibly appealing to try. But I’m no fool. I’ve been burned by terrible cancellation policies before, so I was eager to see if it really would be that easy to cancel my monthly subscription.

And praise Baby Yoda, it was.

After signing up for a monthly subscription box, I immediately cancelled my subscription—I didn’t have to call a phone number, I didn’t go to any sad landing pages, and I wasn’t subject to 400 marketing emails begging me to come back. It was so easy to cancel that it genuinely made me want to sign up again.

I ordered both boxes at the end of October, and since they’re subscription boxes, they told me they arrive in the same time window each month—between the 16th and 23rd. Both boxes arrived on schedule on the same day in good condition—but how did the flowers look?

The results: The Boston flowers were gorgeous

BloomsyBox delivered 13 gorgeous roses in near-perfect condition.

Based on the ordering experience, cancellation process, and delivery speed, I had incredibly high hopes for BloomsyBox. The box was thin and sleek, so I was anxious to see if the flowers would be—to use the technical term—smushed. Once I opened the box, I could see the flowers were wrapped neatly in paper and held in place with a cardboard seatbelt.

The cardboard flap was easy to peel back. The flowers were honestly incredibly fun to unpack, mainly because I had no idea which buds to expect. Having to get through the box, the cardboard, then the paper made the experience all the more entertaining. Once I opened the paper, I was thrilled to see 13 gorgeous roses in perfect condition.

Our BloomsyBox roses arrived in perfect condition.

Each stem was the same length, so I cut the flowers to various lengths to add some levels to the bouquet. That’s actually a trick my mother-in-law taught me when she revived several sad bouquets we had lying around the house—this arrangement would have looked good in a tall vase, but we had a pitcher that was about a foot tall, so shorter stems were better.

Our arrangement arrived with two informational cards: one box with information about the roses, and one booklet with more information about BloomsyBox.

Info cards

The BloomsyBox came with an informational card and booklet, as well as instructions on the side of the box.

The booklet repeats most of the information on the website, so it was quickly discarded. The informational card was a little disappointing—it taught me the roses are called Free Spirit Roses, but the website specifically said I would receive a card “showing you exactly how to maintain your blooms, leading to longer vase life.”

My card didn’t include any care information, instead describing the flower and telling me that if the outer petals are dry or cracked, it’s OK—my flowers are “just different.” The outside of the cardboard box had general care information, like cut the stems and refill the water, but nothing specific to this type of flower.

But overall, I was incredibly pleased with the quality of the flowers I received from BloomsyBox. I loved cutting and displaying them, and especially loved admiring the dual tones in the roses.

The results: The Nashville flowers were nearly identical

The Nashville arrangement from BloomsyBox was nearly identical to the Boston one.

My mother lives in a small suburb outside of Nashville. I was pleased to see that the flowers my mother received in her town, Bellevue, were identical to the ones we received in Boston. Not only were they they same type of flower, but they arrived in excellent condition and on schedule. You can see in the image above that she added garnishes to the bouquet, including a little more greenery.

How long did the BloomsyBox flowers last?

One week out of the box, BloomsyBox flowers were still looking good.

The BloomsyBox flowers lasted two weeks.

After one week, both bouquets were still gorgeous, though you could tell they were starting to wear. They had also opened significantly, allowing the rose’s paler colors to be on full display.

A week after that, it was sadly time for them to go—the Boston one had entirely dried, and if I were into scrapbooking, I would have saved the petals for some kind of cool project.

Ordering from BloomsyBox was seamless and the flowers were gorgeous—I love the idea of opening a BloomsyBox every month.

Would you order BloomsyBox again?

I would definitely order BloomsyBox again.

The BloomsyBox ordering experience was seamless, the flowers were beautiful, and I love the idea of receiving a fresh new bouquet each month, especially since the flowers will change with each delivery.

I do wish I had received more information about the flowers in my package—I already know roses are pretty, but I’d love to know more about Free Spirit Roses. And specifically, I’d love to know how I should have cared for them differently to extend their shelf life.

Overall, I was very pleased with BloomsyBox. If you love flowers, or know someone who’d love to receive one of these boxes, it’s worth the monthly investment. And honestly since cancellation is so easy, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try and cancelling if it’s not quite your style.
