Known for their out-of-this-world design, these laptops are great for users who want high performance for demanding games or work-related tasks.

A pricier pick as far as laptops go, Alienware machines are built to last, and their customer service is said to be some of the best, making them a quality choice for those looking to get more from their investment. Another selling point for Alienware is the ability to customize to your heart’s desire. Options to adjust backlit keyboard brightness as well as light-up color options and even the option to overclock the CPU, are just a few ways users make these their perfect picks.

Alienware M15 R6 Gaming Laptop

At under six pounds, the Alienware M15 R6 is more portable than other gaming laptops on the market, especially among the rest of the Alienware family. This impressive little laptop holds 32 GB of memory in its Intel processor with a 15.6-inch screen and a display resolution maximum of 2560 by 1440 pixels, making it top of our list for resolution quality. A total of six ports makes the R6 accessible for a number of additional accessories, which may be useful due to the less-than-stellar performance of the built in webcam and microphone and the microphone is said to pick up a lot of background noise when in use.

As is with many gaming laptops, users mention that the fans on the R6 can get a bit loud with heavier use and it will heat up to the touch, but this isn’t something that raises concerns, and the performance stays on par no matter how hard it’s pushed. Another nod to portability is that there is no need for additional speakers if you’re gaming on the go, as the built-in speakers are said to be of good quality and the output leaves nothing to be desired.

Pros

  • Superior performance

  • Lightweight

Cons

  • So-so webcam and mic

  • Too hot for your lap

Product image of Alienware X15 R2 Gaming Notebook
Alienware X15 R2 Gaming Notebook

The super slim X15 R2 is solidly built while still being light enough to carry at 5.2 pounds. With a high-end Intel CPU, 1080p resolution, and 16 GB of memory, this laptop boasts high performance as well as incredible usability for gamers. Able to run all games at max settings, users are pleased with the X15 R2 in general but do have some requests for possible updates, including the limited port selection and the fact that the backlit keyboard doesn’t cover all keys, making it hard to use in the dark.

Out of the box, the R2 runs for about four hours but with some tweaking, users were able to get about five hours of use, which isn’t uncommon in laptops running at such high performance. Additional comments on this laptop’s exhaust fan include that it can be quite loud, even when on a stand to circumvent air.

Pros

  • High-performance gaming

  • Lightweight but sturdy

Cons

  • Expensive

  • Typical battery-life issues

  • Limited ports

Product image of Alienware X15 R1 Gaming Laptop
Alienware X15 R1 Gaming Laptop

Said to be a “very powerful machine” for the price by many users, the X15 R1 is the older sibling to the R2. And though the specs are similar, the cost difference is due to the older 11th-generation Intel core and its battery life, which is said to last at a low end of two hours. However, it’s also said to have a fast battery recharge rate, so if you’re gaming at home, this shouldn’t be an issue. The R1 also lacks an RGB touchpad, which isn’t available for this model.

While users say that the R1 could use some improvements, Alienware seems to have done that with the R2, so if you can spend the extra money for a little more convenience, that would be your preferred option. But if you’re looking for a lightweight, basic machine for good gaming and great video support, then look no further than the R1.

Pros

  • Affordable

  • Great image resolution

Cons

  • No RGB touchpad

  • Storage isn’t great

Product image of Alienware M15 R5 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop
Alienware M15 R5 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop

A very cool-looking laptop, the M15 Ryzen R5 runs Windows 11 on an AMD CPU. With standard 16 GB memory and a maximum display resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, the R5 is another lightweight Alienware laptop, weighing only 5.34 pounds. The R5 is great for basic tasks or streaming movies, but when it comes to gaming the machine can quickly heat up, and its fans get very loud—you may want to invest in a pair of noise-canceling headphones. The smallish trackpad makes it so a separate mouse is the preferred method for scrolling, and while users like this little laptop companion, some comment that it doesn’t fully go to sleep. When closed, the lights and fan stay on.

Another common qualm with the R5 is that, despite its great build quality, the Alienware software and command center are not intuitive and could use work for accessibility.

Pros

  • Especially cool design

  • Good build quality

Cons

  • Some complaints about the software

  • Very loud fan

Alienware X17 R1 Gaming Laptop

Sitting at seven pounds, the X17 R1 is a heavier laptop from the Alienware family. Its large, 17.3-inch screen and 1920 by 1080 display make for some fantastic images to match the high performance. At the highest settings, the X17 R1 is capable of playing a number of games without issues, but this isn’t the choice for gamers on the go, as the battery life is lacking and you’ll want to be close to an outlet.

User complaints include that the sound could be better and that only the letters and numbers light up, leaving the rest of the symbol keys unlit and hard to see in the dark. As with other gaming laptops, the X17 R1 does run loud when the fans get going, but if you’re used to that you shouldn’t have any issues.

Pros

  • Large high-quality 1080p display

  • Plays a number of games at high settings

Cons

  • Typical lackluster battery life

  • Not the all keys light up
