You can find a subscription box for basically anything you want these days, from high-end products for men to boxes specially curated for people who love fitness. Hell, you can even have meat delivered to you in special monthly boxes.
For guys who are interested in fashion, travel, and having a more “curated” lifestyle, there are a number of pretty great subscription boxes out there, but Gentleman's Box kept popping up on my radar so I decided to test it out for myself — and you — to see if it was worth the subscription.
What is Gentleman’s Box?
Described as a “premier box subscription for men,” each box is themed around a certain person and contains four to six items for $29 a month. According to the company, “the contents inside every box are brilliantly crafted and chosen in essence of the featured gentleman’s legacy,” and are worth over $100 in retail value.
There are two different tiers of Gentleman’s Box that members can sign up for: Classic and Premium. Classic contains four to six items and costs $29 for a box or $25 for a box if you pay $298 for the entire year upfront. At $100 a box, the Premium subscription is quite a bit more expensive, but promises to deliver high-quality items like electronics and watches worth over $200 in value every three months.
What comes in the Gentleman’s Box?
The box that I received was called “Angel Investor,” and was dedicated to Jason Bateman and his roles in Ozark and Arrested Development, though the included booklet never said his name outright (maybe for legal reasons?) which I found a little strange. The booklet, Issue No. 60, reads like a tiny magazine and included a note from the founder asking for members to send what they wanted to see in future boxes, info on the curation of the box, specifics about each product, an interview with a featured member, and advice on how to live life like a gentleman.
As for the actual contents of the Angel Investor box, I was pretty happy with the selection. Included was a pair of brightly colored striped socks from Sockbox, a vegan leather travel case for cords and a vegan leather passport case from Veganwear, a really cute green tie with a multicolored floral print from Lord of the Ties, and a money clip from Gentlemen Collective.
Altogether, according to the booklet, these products had a retail value of $105. At $35, the tie alone — my favorite item in the box — made up for the cost of the box, making everything else feel like a bonus prize. Personally, I found the passport and travel case to feel a little cheap, but I’m not an expert in vegan leather. Together, all the items made sense and would definitely appeal to the same guy. But the great thing about the box is that if one item is really a win then the entire box is worth the cost.
Gentleman’s Box also has an online store where you can purchase previous boxes without a membership — the Angel Investor box is $34 — and individual items like Jim Beam Whiskey Stones and ties. For grooms, Gentleman’s Box will even curate a special box for all of your groomsmen.
Is Gentleman’s Box worth it?
I would absolutely say yes, Gentleman’s Box is worth the price for a certain type of person or reason. If you’re into curated men’s products or are always on the hunt for interesting products from new brands, this is a great way to discover them. Gentleman’s Box is also a great gift idea for the special man in your life.
