Tail-wagging news arrived for pet parents as Fi, the smart pet collar brand that earned our Editors’ Choice award, announced the Fi Mini. This brand-new GPS pet tracker clips onto collars and monitors your fur baby’s health with AI algorithms, and it weighs only 0.56 ounces. It’s the lightest, smartest pet tracker ever—and, yes, you can use it for your cat.

What is the Fi Mini pet tracker?

The Fi Mini has the same real-time tracking and escape alerts as the Fi Series 3+ smart collar, but with a design that clips onto your pet’s existing collar. Plus, you won’t need a charging base (though the tradeoff is three weeks vs three months of battery life), the cost is lower, and the device won’t get in the way of petite dogs or cats.

Unlike simply getting an AirTag, this smart pet tracker has nationwide coverage on the Verizon LTE-M network, so you can find your pet even if they aren’t near any other devices or Wi-Fi networks. It also has IP68 waterproofing, so it won’t corrode or get ruined when they take a swim.

AI-powered behavior detection

As a pet parent, there is no such thing as being too concerned. Each Fi Mini is equipped to receive an AI update this fall to detect subtle pattern changes that could indicate early health issues with behaviors like:

  • Barking
  • Licking
  • Scratching
  • Drinking
  • Eating

Fi Mini’s AI may be able to alert you that your dog recently had an uptick in scratching in the middle of the night, when you’d typically miss such a thing because you’re sleeping. That may be your sign to take them to the vet before the problem escalates.

Fi Mini pricing and availability

You can order the Fi Mini now for $129—that includes the hardware itself and one year of Fi Membership. Orders will begin shipping September 1.
