Every once in a while a product comes along that makes you think, Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before? A new refrigerator from GE’s Café line of appliances is the first in the industry with a built-in hot-water tap. Duh!

With a programmable temperature range of 90 to 185 degrees, this French Door fridge can heat 10 ounces of water in only a few minutes—perfect for tea, cocoa, oatmeal, and soup, says GE. The temperature control should also allow for greater precision than a stovetop or microwave can offer.

That should be a sticking point for tea drinkers, said Rob Lewis, lead design engineer for GE appliances. "The custom setting is especially interesting for tea aficionados who can make the most of their tea experiences. Simply adjust the temperature to enhance the natural flavor of tea," he said in a press release.

While the $2,999 price tag seems a bit steep, it's in line with other high-end French Door refrigerators that have new, flashy features. We imagine that the hot water tap will be pretty useful, especially for tea fanatics. We'll see how it performs once we get it into our testing labs.
