Smarter's wireless camera turns any fridge into a smart fridge

Smarter, the UK-based company responsible for the iKettle, wants to connect your kitchen without totally draining your bank account of hard-earned funds. There, there wallet. You're okay.

The tech startup is now accepting pre-orders for its FridgeCam, a wireless camera that mounts to the inside wall of your fridge.

These cameras aren’t new to the wondrous world of connected kitchens, but most of them come prebuilt inside fridges—like the Samsung Family Hub. It's no secret that smart fridges, though cool (pun intended), cost a pretty penny. Unless you intend on dropping even more money on a smart appliance, you're left with very few options. That's what makes the FridgeCam a more accessible option for tech-savvy consumers. They can smarten up their “dumb” kitchens while staying on a budget.

When you shut the door, the device takes a photo and sends it to the companion app on your smartphone. You're free to peruse the contents of your fridge at the grocery store, on your lunch break, or when you're just contemplating life. You'll never go to work an uncaffeinated curmudgeon again! But that's not all the FridgeCam can do.

Other features include expiration reminders, access to an automated replenishment service, a recipe suggestion option based on what's in your fridge, and a temperature sensor that alerts you when an item's about to spoil. Christian Lane, Smarter's CEO, claims his smart gadget will "help users live and shop smarter." Well, we certainly hope so! The FridgeCam will retail at $149.99 and will ship in sixteen weeks.
