A sump pump helps to remove standing water in an area of the home, like a crawl space or basement. It's a fairly common piece of plumbing equipment, but like the rest of your pipes, it can be prone to pesky leaks. To avoid major headaches (and water damage to your home), Flo by Moen's Smart Sump Pump monitor, which debited at this year's all-digital CES, is a great way to keep tabs on your sump pump for any potential leaks.
What is the Flo by Moen Smart Sump Pump Monitor?
Think of the monitoring device like a smart water leak detector, but designed specifically with sump pumps in mind. Moen's system constantly checks the pump's water levels, performance, power loss, humidity, temperature, and WiFi status for any abnormalities. The device also checks for frozen pipes and monitors humidity levels. All of this data can be viewed in the Flo by Moen app, which we’ve found easy to use in previous water leak detector tests.
When the sump pump monitor detects a leak, a notification is sent via the Moen app, text, email, phone call, or via the pump's audible alarm. The system has a back-up battery, so that it can keep checking for leaks and other problems even if the power is out. The monitor is also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Moen's Smart Sump Pump Monitor can be used with any brand and age of sump pump. A 2.4 GHz WiFi connection and nearby electrical outlet are required for setup. The sump pump monitor will be available later this year with an estimated price of $179.
