It’s that time of year again—during dinnertime on the fourth Thursday of November, families gather around a table filled with delicious food as they reflect on everything they’re grateful for. A fixture of Thanksgiving festivities is the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which draws in tens of millions of viewers every year. What is Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual parade hosted by Macy’s that takes place in New York City during Thanksgiving. Macy’s first Thanksgiving parade was held in 1924 and they’ve hosted a parade nearly every year since—the only exception was a three-year stretch from 1942 to 1944 wherein the parade was canceled to conserve helium for use during World War II. (Nope, they didn't even skip in 2020 for Covid!)
The parade begins at Central Park and ends at Macy’s Herald Square. During the procession, balloons of various characters float high above the streets of New York while performers sing and dance. The event is broadcast live every year.

Who is performing in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2025?
As is tradition, the 2025 iteration of Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade will feature a star-studded cast of exciting performers including Cynthia Erivo, Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Calum Scott, to name a few. There will also be performances from the Radio City Rockettes, as per usual, along with the singers from K-Pop Demon Hunters group HUNTR/X.
We’d be remiss to forget about our floating performers. Beyond the multitude of returning faces, there are some notable newcomers like Derpy and Sussy from the aforementioned K-Pop sensation, Buzz Lightyear, Mario, Pac-Man, and Shrek's Onion Carriage.
