3. AncestryDNA kits

Show Dad how much family means to you with a deep look into your family heritage.

I've always been so curious about my heritage, and my dad had always rattled off these percentages of what I was made of (including supposedly being 1/16th Italian), so I got a DNA kit from Ancestry a few years back and found out that he was mostly right, but somehow the Italian didn't make it into my genes. We have the Ellis Island paperwork from my great-great (great?) grandfather, who was very Italian, so this year I'm probably getting my dad his own DNA kit to get to the bottom of this mystery. And thankfully for me, and you, Ancestry is running a promotion for the holiday.

You can get a DNA kit from the most popular DNA test provider for just $59 now through June 17. It's usually $99, and the only time it dipped lower was on Black Friday when they sold it for $49. All Dad has to do is spit in a tube, mail it out, and wait a few weeks for his results. You know you'll get a phone call or five as he starts to explore his heritage and maybe reconnects with an old cousin. Who knows, maybe I'll get to the bottom of my Italian mystery ancestor at long last.

Get the AncestryDNA Testing Kit at Ancestry.com for $59 (Save $40)

If you want to give Dad more ways to learn about himself, 23andMe's DNA testing kits that also look at your genetic health traits are also on sale. They're offering $50 off their usually $200 Health + Ancestry kit on their site and on Amazon.

Save your pops from the embarrassment of an overcooked burger at the next family barbecue with one of the best grilling thermometers.

Even if your dad considers himself a "grill master," he could always use a little help determining the temperature of whatever he's cooking to make the most succulent meat. That's why a probe thermometer would make a great gift for Father's Day. These fancy meat thermometers allow you to constantly monitor your meat's temperature without opening up the grill and letting out precious heat. Right now, you can get two of our favorite probe thermometers at a discounted price.

The Thermoworks ChefAlarm is the best grilling thermometer we've ever tested because it was the most accurate probe we tested, and it was also the only one that you can calibrate, and right now it's $8 off on the Thermoworks site. If you want something a little more affordable, we gave the Thermoworks DOT the Best Value award, and it's also discounted 14% right now. We think Dad would love either one, and we know your burgers and steaks will taste way better too. Everyone wins!

5. Powertools galore at Home Depot

If your dad is a maker or just likes fixing things around the house, tools are not a cliche gift to give him.

As stereotypical as it may be to shop for tools, if Dad's actually into DIY, or home renovation projects, you can take advantage of Home Depot's Father's Day promotions. They're discounting major brands like Makita, Ryobi, and Milwaukee as much as 40% so you can give the gift of a workshop upgrade. For instance, if your father swears by Makita, who makes our favorite cordless drill, you'd definitely be the favorite child if you picked up this two-pack of 18V battery packs so he can work for hours on end without having to stop and recharge his tools. The set is only $99, down from $159.

8. Fitbit fitness trackers

Whether Dad loves to run or needs a little extra motivation to get moving, the best fitness tracker can do the trick.

With Father's Day less that a week away, you've still got some time to find the perfect gift for dad. If you want to avoid getting something lame or last-minute, you'll be glad to know there are a few deals you can take advantage right now, like Fitbit's Father's Day sale. Not only are they offering discounts on the Versa ($20 off), Charge 3 ($30 off), and Ionic ($50 off), but they're also guaranteeing free two-day delivery so you have time to wrap your gift too. You'll just need to enter the promo code DADSDAY2 when you check out.

The Charge 3 is our top choice, as it's the best fitness tracker we've ever tested. It offers heart rate monitoring, text, call, and calendar notifications, silent alarms, and a super long battery life of 7+ days. We'd actually suggest you steer clear of the Ionic, as our tester said the big, bulky size made it very uncomfortable to wear. But if your dad has giant wrists or arms, maybe he'll love it. Who knows!
