Smart rings are the new smartwatches. They are worn either in place of one for a distraction-free health, wellness, and fitness tracking experience or alongside one as a complementary data collector.
We’ve been testing smart rings for the last few years and have extensively compared and contrasted them while wearing them in the shower, to bed, at the gym, while working, and during nightly activities—basically, all the time.
During our testing, the Oura Ring 4
(available at Amazon for $349.00)
has emerged as a favorite—the smart ring that we think is best for most people. It’s the Goldilocks model with the right balance of style, fit, battery life, sensors, health tracking, and intuitive app experience. While the Oura Ring requires a subscription, it’s the price of a single premium latte a month, and maybe even easier to stomach.
Perhaps the most widely known, Oura is no longer the only smart ring in town. If you’re considering testing the waters, now is a great time to buy one, since there are so many options to choose from.

Best Smart Ring Overall
Oura Ring 4
Size range: 4 to 15
Material: Titanium (inside and out)
Colors: Silver, Black, Stealth, Brushed Silver, Gold, Rose Gold
Dimensions: 7.9mm wide, 2.88mm thin
Weight: 3.3 grams to 5.2 grams (depending on ring size)
Water and dust resistance: Up to 100 meters (no official IP/ATM rating)
Rated battery life: Up to 8 days
Compatibility: iOS, Android
Oura Ring is the category originator, and the company remains the leader with its new Oura Ring 4, which replaces the Oura Ring 3. It improves over the previous-gen model with all-around titanium construction and recessed sensors for a thinner, sleeker look.
Smart Sensing ensures continuous, accurate data capture, even if the ring shifts around on your finger while you fidget or sleep. Speaking of sleep, Oura remains one of the best for tracking sleep with detailed, accurate reports. We named its predecessor, the Oura Ring 3, among the best sleep trackers, and the Oura Ring 4 earns that title, too, especially with the addition of Smart Sensing.
All the data collected by this comfortable, ultra-durable ring is accessible in the intuitive, well-organized Oura app. We love the additional features like menopause and perimenopause tracking, meal logging, and even Symptom Radar, which can measure and warn you about a potential cold. You can manually track workouts, or you can enjoy the automatic workout tracking, which we liked very much.
The Oura Ring 4’s battery life is downright phenomenal, though we wish this model came with a charging case for on-the-go charging. That said, considering it lasts up to a week, you could go on vacation and not even need the charger.
The elephant in the room is its subscription, which costs $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year. Let’s be clear: the smart ring isn't worth it if you’re not going to use the subscription, so factor the subscription into the up-front cost. The fee is less than a coffee and a muffin in the morning once a month, and we think it’s worth it to keep your health on track.
Material: Titanium reinforced with a tungsten carbide coating, epoxy resin inner ring
Colors: Bionic Gold, Aster Black, Space Silver, Raw Titanium, Matte Grey, Brushed Rose Gold
Dimensions: 8.1mm wide, 2.45-2.8mm thick (depending on size)
Weight: 2.4 grams to 3.6 grams (depending on ring size)
Water and dust resistance: Up to 100 meters for up to 12 hours (no official IP/ATM rating)
Rated battery life: 4 to 6 days
Compatibility: Android, iOS
The Ultrahuman Ring Air is one of the more elegant-looking smart rings. Available in a wide range of sizes and in stylish colors, it’s comfortable to wear all day and night. It’s water-resistant, too.
What sets it apart is the PowerPlugs add-ons in the app, which you can select based on your personal needs. Love to drink coffee? Use Caffeine Window to find out when it’s the best time to indulge (or refrain) from a cup of java. Do you work an odd shift? There’s a mode that adjusts tracking based on your unique schedule. Choose from so many free ones, like vitamin D and circadian rhythm, or more advanced PowerPlugs like AFib detection, available for a nominal monthly fee.
In real-world tests, the battery lasts about three days when using Turbo Mode, which activates all features, though you can use Chill and Critical Battery Mode in a pinch to limit functions and extend battery life.
The app could be organized better, but I love the breadth of information it provides, as well as smartphone notifications that advise when it’s time to get some sun or praise you for getting better-quality sleep last night. You also get weekly reports. Use it to track all types of workouts, activities, and sports.
It's one of the few smart rings I’d confidently rely on for everything my smartwatch typically tracks. The fantastic all-around smart ring will suit just about anyone, whether your priority is fitness, health and wellness, or passive vitals tracking.
While we tested the Circular Ring Slim, pictured, the brand has release the next generation.
Best Value Smart Ring
Circular Ring 2
Size range: 6 to 14
Material: Titanium body with PVD coating, hypoallergenic interior
Colors: Obsidian Black, Silver, Gold, Rose Gold
Dimensions: 7.8mm wide, 2.55mm thin
Weight: 3 grams
Water and dust resistance: Water-resistant (no official IP rating)
Rated battery life: Up to 8 days
Compatibility: Android, iOS
Though it’s a value option, the Circular Ring 2 is solid. Although I have not yet reviewed this model as indepthly as the others on this list, I did review the previous-generation Circular Ring Slim, which provided an introduction to brand as well as the app experience. I was also able to see an early version of the Circular Ring 2 at CES 2025 in Las Vegas earlier this year.
It packs in unique and useful features, including FDA-cleared Afib detection, enhanced ECG, and blood pressure and glucose monitoring coming soon. The Slim ring version didn’t look as elegant as its competition, but there is an improvement with version two, which boasts a glossier look and is made with the more durable titanium. But honestly, we didn’t have any complaints about the Slim’s durability, even after running it through several cycles in the washing machine, and it came out a little scratched but fully functioning.
The Circular Ring 2 doesn’t incorporate haptic vibrations like the Slim (alerting you of an alarm or when to take medication, for example).
The app is powered by a helpful AI wellness assistant called Kira+ that asks questions about you, assesses your behavior, and, over time, makes recommendations to improve your health and wellness or help you adopt better habits. She’s like a personal virtual wellness coach. When we used the app with the Slim version, it was buggy, sometimes failing to sync or constantly crashing. With the Circular 2, the app has been completely redesigned to more resemble both the Oura and Ultrahuman apps, but based on recent app ratings, there are still some bugs. However, with firmware updates and continuous improvements, the experience will hopefully get better. When it works, it works well, providing tons of useful stats organized logically so it’s easy to read and interpret..
Get up to eight days of battery life per charge, seven with Performance Mode, down to about two days with Performance Mode, which is a drastic improvement from the Circular Ring Slim. I’ll have to wait to test it to confirm real-world usage, however. Another big improvement is that unlike the tiny USB-C charger that came with the Circular Ring Slim, this one comes with a wireless charging case.
We’ll provide more concrete details on the Circular Ring 2 once we get our hands on it. Stay tuned.
Pros
Comes with a wireless charging case
It works with an intelligent assistant
No subscription required
Can track ECG and Afib (soon blood pressure and glucose)
Weight: 2.3 grams to 3.2 grams (depending on ring size)
Water and dust resistance: 10ATM, IP68
Rated battery life: Up to 7 days
Compatibility: Android (Galaxy phone to unlock all features)
We don’t recommend the Samsung Galaxy Ring for owners of any smartphone brand other than Galaxy devices. While it technically can connect, you’ll lose out on Samsung-specific features, like Energy Score and AI-powered tips. For Samsung Galaxy phone owners, however, it’s worth considering.
The design is basic, but it’s comfortable to wear. It excels in battery life, especially with the charging case that lets you pop it into a purse or pocket for on-the-go charging. It’s ultra durable with a 10ATM rating, which means you can wear it virtually anywhere, even during water sports.
I don’t see tremendous value in wearing it alongside a Galaxy Watch, one of our best smartwatches, unless you want to use it for passive secondary tracking. Use a watch like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 to track workouts, walks, and other activities, and the ring to track 24/7 heart rate, sleep data, and vitals.
All the data is presented in the Samsung Health app, which is basic but easy to navigate. If you want to limit distractions, however, the Galaxy Ring is a solid Galaxy phone companion.
There are some cool additional things you can do with the ring, too, like use gestures to control your phone. You can double pinch your finger to silence an alarm or take a photo, for example. (Note that you can use gestures with the latest Galaxy Watches, too.)
We tested the original Luna Ring, pictured—now it's been updated.
Best AI-Driven Smart Ring
Luna Ring Gen 2
Size range: 6 to 14
Material: Titanium with PVD coating, hypoallergenic plastic inner ring
Colors: Sunlit Gold, Rose Gold, Stardust Silver, Lunar Black, Midnight Black
Dimensions: 8mm wide, 2.9mm thin
Weight: 3 grams to 4 grams (depending on ring size)
Water and dust resistance: 5ATM
Rated battery life: Up to 7 days
Compatibility: iOS, Android
The Luna Ring 2 retains the simple design, comfortable fit, and AI-driven insights that I appreciated in the original Luna Ring, while introducing a slightly slimmer design and faster processing. The app can be slightly overwhelming with all the data that’s collected, but you also get a daily health digest as a glanceable summary.
Summon Luna AI to inquire about stats and get tips and suggestions on how to improve. The virtual assistant can guide you through interpreting data and even help you find a suitable pre-workout drink or healthy snack. The Luna Ring 2’s new Life OS ecosystem is said to offer enhanced performance and more personalized insights, although we haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet.
There are only 10 workouts to choose from, but the “freestyle workout” option serves as a catch-all in place of workouts that are missing, such as indoor cardio or strength training. If you manually add a workout after the fact, more options appear, offering a basic calorie-burn calculation based on your effort during that time and activity.
Battery life is decent: We got 4 to 5 days per charge with the original ring, and it’s expected to be the same with the new one. The big difference is that the Luna Ring 2 comes with a charging case that stores up to six additional battery cycles.
Sleep tracking is detailed, offering insights into the circadian midpoint, which helps you understand sleep patterns and your body’s internal clock, and how to adjust sleep schedules to align with your natural rhythm. The Luna Ring 2 also offers on-demand biomarker measurement, allowing users to measure parameters such as SpO₂, skin temperature, heart rate, and stress instantly, rather than passively.
Stay tuned for our more detailed insights on the brand new Luna Ring 2, once we’ve gotten our hands on that model.
The Amazfit Helio is tailor-made for runners, so if you don’t partake in that activity, this isn’t the right smart ring for you. But if you are a runner, the Amazfit Helio is a solid option that isn’t too expensive and provides useful guidance and tracking.
Stylish with a lovely dotted pattern, the comfortable ring offers an impressive 10ATM water-resistance rating and lasts up to three days per charge. It only tracks four workout types—running, walking, cycling, and treadmill—so if you don’t predominantly do any of these, it’s best for secondary tracking alongside a smartwatch.
Runners will especially love the advanced metrics it captures, including training load, exertion load, and recovery. It can even analyze your runs and generate race predictions, which is perfect if you’re training for a 5K.
The app, while buggy, provides useful information. But it’s not as enticing to revisit as other smart rings are. This is largely because there are no notifications or additional insights that entice you to visit more often.
One feature that stands out is Zepp Aura, which includes customized sleep and relaxation sounds and a chatbot that can answer wellness-related questions. That might include information about how your diet affects sleep or what caused your poor sleep quality the night before. It’s a decent smart ring for runners, but it isn’t really the best option for anyone else.
Material: Liquidmetal (a zirconium-based amorphous alloy) with titanium PVD coating
Colors: Silver, Gold, Rose Gold
Dimensions: 8 mm wide, approx. 3 mm thick
Weight: 3.2 grams to 3.7 grams, depending on size
Water and dust resistance: Water resistance up to 1 meter
Rated battery life: 4 days typical use; includes portable charging case capable of 10 ring charges
Compatibility: iOS 16 or above; Android OS 12 or above
The Evie Ring arrives as a noteworthy newcomer, purpose-built for women’s wellness with design cues that mix discreet jewelry with clinical ambition. From its open-gap band (a thoughtful nod to finger size variation) to its scratch-resistant Liquidmetal body and buy-once pricing (no subscription required), the ring positions itself not just as a tracker but as a wearable companion on the health journey.
While the established Oura Ring—we compared the Evie to the Oura ring—still holds the polish and broad tracking suite, Evie’s focus on menstrual-cycle logging, mood tracking, and tailored insights makes it a strong pick for those who feel underserved by one-size-fits-all wearables.
In short: Evie may not yet beat the incumbent on every metric, but its female-first design and straightforward model make it a compelling choice in the smart-ring space.
We’ve been testing smart rings for the last few years and have extensively compared and contrasted them while wearing them in every type of scenario. After swapping among several different smart rings and factoring in everything from fit and finish to comfort, battery life, the metrics and data they collect, and the companion apps, we gathered this list.
What to Consider When Buying a Smart Ring?
Before purchasing a smart ring, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Who would use a smart ring?
Smart rings are useful for those who want to keep on top of health, wellness, and fitness. They passively track vitals such as heart rate, sleep, blood oxygen, stress, body temperature, and more. You can use them to track workouts from the companion app; some offer automatic workout detection. They’re ideal as a complement to a smartwatch or a distraction-free option in place of one. Anyone from active folks who want to track exercise to less active individuals focused on health can benefit from a smart ring.
Sizing and fit
It’s crucial to order the sizing kit for any smart ring first. Smart ring sizes differ from regular ring sizes, typically because of their thickness and sensors on the underside. Try on the ring you think is the right size for 24 hours. This accounts for daily fluctuations in your finger's circumference and helps you gauge how it feels during everyday activities. It should be snug enough that it won’t fall off, and so that the inner ring comes in constant contact with your skin, but not too tight to cut off circulation. You should be able to remove it with a gentle tug easily. The ring should be worn on your index, middle, or ring finger. Never wear it on your thumb or pinky.
Compatibility
Most smart rings work with both Android and iOS smartphones, but some are exclusive to Android (Apple does not yet have its own smart ring). The Samsung Galaxy Ring, for example, only works with Android phones. You also unlock more features and get a more seamless experience when pairing it with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone than with an Android phone from another brand. Confirm compatibility with your phone before buying a smart ring.
Battery life
With so many other gadgets you need to recharge daily, a smart ring with a battery that can last for days, some up to a week, could be a deciding factor. Consider how often you’re out, how much activity you want to track, and how convenient it is for you to recharge. Models like the Samsung Galaxy Ring come with a charging case you can bring with you to recharge on the go, while ones like the Oura Ring 4 sport amazing battery life.
Sensors and metrics
Most smart rings capture the basics, like activity, calorie burn, heart rate, stress, and sleep. Consider what’s most important to you and see what other data it tracks before deciding. Extras could include menstrual cycle tracking, readiness, energy scores, more detailed sleep analysis, and circadian rhythm. Go through a checklist to make sure nothing you want is missing.
Subscription costs
Factor in not only the cost of the ring itself, but also any relevant subscription costs to find out what you’ll really be paying. Most Oura Ring competitors do not require a subscription, except for premium add-ons for the Ultrahuman Ring Air, such as Afib detection. While the Oura Ring 4 subscription is necessary, it’s a nominal fee you can justify by skipping a single morning cappuccino or a Friday afternoon pastry each month.
App experience
While a smart ring sits on your finger and does its work in the background, the app is where you can see all the magic at work. So, it’s important that the app is nicely laid out and organized, easy to read and navigate, and provides easy access to everything you need. The best apps include additional information, including resources on women’s health, nutrition, mental health, and more.
Data privacy
While most smart rings don’t require a subscription, you need to consider why. Read the fine print for the companion app to ensure that your private data remains private and is not being used for anything you’re not comfortable with or sold to third-party companies. Considering the type of data smart rings collect and how personal it is, it’s especially important to be educated before downloading an app.
Care, maintenance, and warranty
As with any electronic device, it’s important to take good care of a smart ring. Periodically wipe it down with a cloth. Dry it after it gets wet. And be mindful of the water-resistance rating. Remove it during rough activities to prevent scratches and scuffs, especially if the ring isn’t very durable. If you work with your hands outdoors, you might prefer a smartwatch instead.
Smart Rings Are Not for Everyone
A smart ring is a great alternative to a smartwatch or fitness tracker if you want something that’s completely passive and distraction-free. But if you desire notifications, mobile wallet access, and apps like Spotify and Strava, smart rings won’t cut it.
They might also not be ideal for those with joint issues or those who experience frequent weight fluctuations, which can affect finger circumference. In these cases, a smartwatch or fitness tracker is the better option. For those serious about health and wellness, a smartwatch and smart ring combination offers a more holistic view, providing a comprehensive report on your daily health and wellness.
FAQ: Smart Rings
Are smart rings better than fitness trackers?
Smart rings often track the same data as fitness trackers, without the distraction of a screen. They are also unobtrusive on the finger, resembling a traditional band-style ring, which some prefer. They can be just as reliable as a wrist fitness tracker; in fact, smart rings can be more reliable for continuous heart rate and sleep tracking due to their consistent skin contact.
Do smart rings track workouts?
Yes! Usually, you’ll have to start the workout in the companion app by selecting the workout type from a list. Some smart rings, like the Oura Ring 4, have automatic workout detection that can recognize a range of workouts and start tracking without manual initiation. These usually include workouts with distinct movements, such as walking, running, cycling, rowing, and boxing. Most also allow you to input a workout manually, but this is merely for logging purposes.
Can I wear a smart ring all the time?
Absolutely. A smart ring with a water-resistant rating can even be worn in the shower, while washing dishes, playing outdoor sports, and swimming. Be mindful of sources of saltwater, as well as in extreme temperatures —such as frigid snow and high heat —such as in a hot tub. But for the most part, your smart ring can be worn all the same times you’d wear other rings.
What size smart ring should I buy?
Order the free sizing kit every smart ring manufacturer offers and try on a few sizes of the replica ring until you find one that fits just right. Wear it for 24 hours before making a final decision. It should be snug and in constant contact with your finger, but not too tight that it’s painful. Note that smart ring sizes may differ from your normal ring size.
Do smart rings help improve health?
Whether or not a smart ring helps improve health is entirely up to you and what you do with the data it provides. If your sleep quality is consistently low or your recovery is poor, this could encourage you to get more sleep, do more exercise, and even adjust your diet. Many smart rings provide actionable advice through notifications, like reminding you when to go to bed to be at your best the next day, when to take a rest day because your body hasn’t recovered sufficiently, to get sun, to get up and stretch, or even to do a calming exercise to de-stress. If you pay attention to these cues and use the data to your benefit, a smart ring can absolutely help improve your health.
