The Bluetti FridgePower is a compact backup battery system designed specifically to keep your refrigerator running during power outages. It works like a smart UPS (uninterruptible power supply), automatically switching to battery power within milliseconds when the grid goes down, with no manual action required.

It plugs into the wall, your fridge plugs into it, and you’re good to go—no installation or wiring required. It’s slim and space-efficient, and operates quietly for continuous indoor use. It can also be mounted on a wall if space above the fridge is limited.

FridgePower uses long-lasting LiFePO4 battery cells and aims to provide extended runtime, helping prevent food spoilage and protect temperature-sensitive items. The FridgePower also features low energy consumption and is built for long-term use, with an expected lifespan of over 10 years.

With the ability to expand the unit with additional batteries or recharge it via solar panels (both sold separately), it’s a potential solution for longer outages. It can also be used in mobile homes.

Provides reliable power backup for a large or essential appliance

If the first thing you think about when the power goes out is how long the contents of your fridge or freezer will last—and heaven forbid anyone opens the fridge or freezer and lets any amount of that precious cold escape—the Bluetti FridgePower home backup battery system is your path to peace of mind.

In testing, FridgePower kept our full-size refrigerator running for more than 30 hours with the main power supply removed. This obviously varies depending on the type and size of the fridge, and if you plug anything else into the additional outlet on the unit.

We didn’t open the fridge during initial testing, so it stands to reason that normal use will reduce the power duration. Still, the battery capacity is sufficient to sustain most normal outages.

There is also a very compelling use case for the FridgePower paired with a fish tank. If your tank requires the pump to run to preserve the fish and their environment, an extended power outage can be detrimental—and costly. The FridgePower unit is slim enough to store near a tank setup to ensure continuous power.

The app is straightforward, and notifications are clear

In addition to the power button turning red, the unit will send notifications as the battery power dwindles.

When the power goes out, the Bluetti app immediately sends a notification that FridgePower backup has been activated. From there, you can monitor the capacity and remaining battery life.

Bluetooth pairing lets you stay connected to the unit even when your internet goes down, as long as your device stays charged.

Notifications keep you updated on the remaining battery life, starting at 20%, and notify you every time the battery drops by 5%.

Solar recharging could be a big savior

The ability to recharge this unit with solar power could be a significant benefit during an extended power outage. The fully charged battery provided about 30 hours of power for our full-size refrigerator, with nothing else plugged into it during that time.

A connection to solar panels could recharge the battery while in use and potentially power the fridge during a much longer power outage.

Loud beeping at 5%, but it can be silenced

If you’re not regularly keeping tabs on the app, which also sends notifications as battery power declines, the unit makes a loud beeping noise when the battery reaches 5% remaining power, and the power button flashes red.

The sound can be silenced with a single press of the power button, but the unit remains on, and the power button continues to flash red until it loses power.

This audible and visual notification can be helpful if you’re experiencing an extended outage and need to pursue another plan to preserve food.

What we don’t like

Estimated Time Remaining may not always be accurate

You need to wait until the AC is registering to get a more accurate Time Remaining.

Fluctuations in the time remaining metric make it hard to rely on the information. Because a refrigerator's power draw fluctuates as it cycles, the estimated time remaining may be misleading depending on when you check it.

Since the Time Remaining metric is based on current discharging power, and therefore prone to fluctuation, the resulting number depends on which phase of power draw you catch it in.

As you get to know the FridgePower unit and its relationship to the connected appliances, you can better gauge the accuracy of the time remaining based on the expected average discharge.

The estimates when the draw is showing as 0 are likely overstated, and the estimates when at average or full-power draw could be underestimated, so the accurate amount of time is likely an average of those numbers.

It’s best to test the duration with your desired appliance before you need it in an actual power emergency, so as not to overestimate how long the appliance can rely on battery power.

App monitoring isn’t available when the internet is disconnected

This means you can’t monitor the device from a distance, or while away from it entirely, unless you’ve also backed up the power to your internet service provider and the outage hasn’t affected internet service in your area.

If you’re away from home and your internet goes out, you have to trust that FridgePower has kicked in, and you won’t be able to monitor its duration until you’re back within Bluetooth range.

The unit is very heavy

While this unit can be moved as needed, it’s important to recognize that it is not a portable power supply in the traditional sense.

If you’re planning to use this for a mobile home or any on-the-go power needs, you’ll want to plan carefully for transportation and may need two people to carry and position the unit.

Should you buy the Bluetti FridgePower?

Yes, especially if you lose power frequently

Since the average power outage in the U.S. lasts only one to two hours, this battery backup may not be necessary for areas that don’t face extended outages. Still, if you’ve ever gone without power for more than 12 hours or you lose power frequently, this system is a failsafe power replacement.

From a garage fridge or basement freezer full of valuable food, to a fish tank full of beloved sea life—the Bluetti FridgePower (available at Bluetti) home backup battery system is well worth the investment to protect your other precious investments.

It’s slim enough to install multiple units in your home as needed, expandable to cover multiple large appliances, and can be paired with solar power for recharging.
