The Roundup

For nearly 15 years, Reviewed.com has put thousands of products to the test, all to help consumers buy, use, and understand electronics and appliances. Here’s what we’ve been up to this week.

Sony Cyber-shot RX1 Digital Camera Review

The Sony RX1 (MSRP $2,799.99) is sure to be the object of lust for anyone with even a passing interest in photography. It’s a full-frame compact camera with a Zeiss lens fixed to the front, offering superlative image quality from a body subtle enough for candid street photography (rivaling Leica cameras in that regard). But how many people will be able to overlook the $2,800 price tag? Check out our in-depth analysis.

What is a Smart Appliance?

Appliances aren’t just big boxes sitting in the corner anymore. In part one of a series, we explore the emergence of smart appliances, from self-diagnosing washing machines to dishwashers that negotiate rates with the power company to refrigerators with built-in tablets and Twitter feeds.

Coverage from International Home + Housewares Show

We hit the floor at the International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago last weekend, and found a wondrous world of kitchen tech. From cutting-edge induction cookers and cookware, to vacuum sealers and samurai blades, to a coffee mug that just won’t tip over, IHHS had the future of kitchenware on display.

Nikon Announces Coolpix A Compact

The parade of high-end compact cameras continues, now with an entry from Nikon. The Coolpix A (MSRP $1,099.95) packs a 16-megapixel APS-C sensor (the same size as those in its consumer-level DSLR cameras) and a fixed 18.5mm, f/2.0 lens into the smallest body in this category yet. Can the market support another fixed-lens compact at this price point? We shall see. Nikon also unveiled the semi-advanced Coolpix P330 (MSRP $379.95) and bottom-end S3500 (MSRP $139.95), as well as an updated 80-400mm lens (MSRP $2,699.95).

Superlux HD668B Headphone Review

They don’t look like much, and at $59.95, we didn’t expect much from them. But these Superlux HD668B headphones really impressed us with audiophile-quality performance and comfortable fit. They don’t seem like they’re built to last, but they’re an excellent value.
