The smooth front of the Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF is smudge-proof stainless steel. The left door, which is smaller than the right door, houses the fridge's through-the-door ice and water dispenser. Underneath the twin doors is the Custom-Flex Temp Drawer, and below that is its freezer.

Opening the top two doors reveals the fridge's interior, which features a standard array of door bins and spill-capture shelves. The top left of the compartment houses the ice maker. Below the shelves are a pair of crispers, and below those are two shallow bins called the Snack Zone, which is easily accessible for kids.

How we test refrigerators

Like hundreds of appliances before it, we tested the Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF at our former lab facility in Cambridge, MA. In fact, we've been testing all types of fridges since 2012, including top-freezers, bottom-freezers, side-by-sides, and French doors.

What we like

Its design and cooling tech keep temperatures steady

One of the Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF's more striking features (at least for those of us who look at fridges for a living) is its Open Access Door design.

Traditional French-door fridges keep their upper compartment sealed behind two equally-sized doors. Frigidaire's Open Access Door design makes the right door larger than the left, allowing greater access to the fridge via a single door.

This is important because keeping that smaller secondary door closed actually helps the fridge hang on to a lot of its cold air, reducing energy consumption and generally keeping temperatures steadier during regular use.

This design undoubtedly plays a role in how steady this fridge's temperatures are over time. Temperatures barely move at all, regardless of how often you open the door to ponder a snack. Food stored in this Frigidaire fridge will maintain a consistent internal temperature no matter where it's stored.

Temperatures at the top and bottom of the fridge stayed at 38°F, and temperatures in the middle of the fridge didn't wander far from 36°F. All fluctuations over time were less than a single degree, which is noteworthy: Even great fridges can have temperature fluctuations of a degree or two.

The slightly cooler middle of the fridge is likely due to the fridge's unique cooling system.

Typically, fridges have a single air vent at the top. This leads to a cold top shelf (because it's getting blasted with newly-chilled air), a cold bottom shelf (because cold air sinks), and a warmer middle shelf (because heat rises, but the current from the vent on the top shelf prevents it from getting higher).

The Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF breaks this paradigm by having multiple air vents throughout the interior, which ensures temperature and airflow more evenly overall, reducing food waste and energy consumption.

The GRMC2273CF's freezer also put up some impressive results. Once temperatures fully dropped to their baseline after we plugged in the refrigerator, there was barely any wobble to them, staying within a fraction of a degree of the average. That means you're unlikely to run into any issues with freezer burn and warm spots.

Even the Custom-Flex Temp Drawer was consistent, staying within 1°F of its target temperatures.

While not as perfect as the Frigidaire Gallery GRQC2255BF Quattro we previously tested, the GRMC2273CF still offers some of the most consistent temperatures we've measured. Frigidaire is clearly onto something with their newest cooling technology.

It provides a surprising amount of storage for a counter-depth model

Counter-depth refrigerators like the GRMC2273CF are shallower that full-size refrigerators, a build that lets them sit flush with the rest of your cabinetry. While this design can look great in a put-together kitchen, the smaller size means lower overall storage.

Or it should in theory.

We're not sure how Frigidaire managed to cram so much storage space into a fridge with this footprint, but it definitely succeeded. With a whopping 11.64 cubic feet of storage space, this Frigidaire fridge is on the higher side of average for, even, a standard-depth French-door fridge while still being a counter-depth unit.

This is even more impressive when you consider how many drawers this fridge has, including its middle drawer, with the custom temperature settings. Drawers, in general, aren't as space-efficient as shelves, not to mention that the middle drawer needs room for its own insulation.

While its freezer storage is more in line with other counter-depth models, it still provides a not-too-shabby 3.6 cubic feet.

Frigidaire's crispers are absolutely on point

The humble crisper is an oft-overlooked feature, but Frigidaire's new designs have been knocking it out of the park on our testing.

A good crisper can walk the line of retaining enough humidity to keep veggies crisp while removing excess moisture to prevent your produce from rotting.

Especially fancy crispers will also employ some form of ethylene gas filter. Ethylene gas is a plant hormone given off by some fruits that can cause other produce to ripen faster than expected and spoil, all which leads to food waste.

The GRMC2273CF's crispers delivered on both fronts. Not only is there a built-in filter to keep ethylene gas from affecting your fruits and vegetables, but the crispers also retain about four times as much humidity as other fridges.

If you rely on fresh fruits and veggies, the GRMC2273CF's crispers will make sure your produce hits its maximum shelf life and reduce food waste.

Its fixtures are versatile and feel great to use

The Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF's SpaceWise organization system lets users accommodate large or otherwise unwieldy objects with ease.

You can slide the top door bin around to help make room for taller items beneath. Some shelves can fold up to accomplish the same goal in the main body of the fridge.

Below the crispers are a few thin cubbies, called the Snack Zone, which provides an easy-to-reach compartment for kids.

As mentioned earlier, the GRMC2273CF's Open Access Door design also lets you access most of the fridge by only opening a single door. While this works wonders for helping the fridge maintain its temperature, it also provides easier access to more items and makes for a better overall user experience.

The flex drawer provides adaptable storage with custom temperature settings

The Custom-Flex Temp Drawer is a separate compartment, a middle drawer, really, that allows you to customize its temperature independent of the fridge and freezer.

The drawer has five preset temperatures that cover the entire range of what you might want to hit: freezer, meat/seafood, cold drinks, deli/snacks, and chilled wine.

That means the drawer can serve as extra space for frozen foods just as easily as it can be a wine cooler, depending on your needs at that moment.

What we don’t like

Some details feel unpolished

The fact that the Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF does so much so well makes the parts that fall short stick out that much more.

While we love the overall design of this fridge's storage, some elements feel better to move around than others.

For example, while the crisper drawers and Snack Zone covers glide smoothly, the freezer door and shelf seem to hitch or squeak when used. While the shelves are easy to fold up, repositioning them can be relatively difficult and cumbersome: Removing one shelf can make its neighbor also tilt up, which can cause accidental spilling.

Finally, the controls themselves aren't particularly responsive, and we found some taps just didn't register.

It comes with a short warranty

The Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF is covered by an industry-standard one-year warranty for parts and labor. Given the popularity of Frigidaire and the GRMC2273CF fridge, we would like to see it backed by a longer warranty similar to those of brands like LG and Samsung.

The LG warranty includes one year of parts and labor, a separate five-year warranty on the compressor and a 10-year warranty on the linear inverter compressor parts. Samsung’s warranty goes above and beyond the 10-year commitment—models with a digital inverter compressor are covered for 20 years for the compressor part.

Frigidaire does offer the purchase of an extended warranty, but the cost is determined on a per-product basis. Since customer service is the chief complaint of any negative reviews on Frigidaire refrigerators, we’re concerned about the effectiveness of an extended warranty through the manufacturer.

Energy efficiency

When it comes to energy consumption, the Frigidaire GRMC2273CF uses a relatively energy-efficient 668 kWh annually. In fact, it is certified by Energy Star as meeting (or exceeding) the energy-efficiency requirements for its category.

Materials used

Frigidaire specifies the refrigerant used in the GRMC2273CF is R-600a, which is a low-GWP (global-warming-potential) hydrocarbon refrigerant—much lower impact than older CFC/HCFC/HFC refrigerants. By 2023, 97% of Frigidaire’s products with refrigerants had switched to gases with low GWP.

Electrolux, the parent company of Frigidaire, has also made a goal to use 35% recycled steel and plastic by weight in its products by 2030 in an effort to further its sustainability practices.

Yes—We love its steady temperatures and flexible storage

If you're in the market for a new counter-depth, French-door refrigerator, the Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF is one of the better models we've tested recently.

The steady temperatures in its cooling and freezer compartments mean your food won't spoil prematurely. Its crispers hang on to humidity to keep veggies from wilting. Its three different compartments and adjustable fixtures let you adapt to new storage needs easily. It also just has a ton of storage space.

We did find some very minor aspects of interacting with the fridge to be cumbersome, such as using the freezer drawers, attempting to reposition shelves, and using the controls, but overall, the fridge feels great to use.

If you're in the market for a French-door with a flex drawer, the GRMC2273CF may even be a better option than its sister model, the Frigidaire Gallery GRQC2255BF Quattro. While the Quattro had better overall performance, its 4-door design means its custom-temp compartment is located at ground level, rather than hip level, making this Frigidaire’s middle drawer more easily accessible.
