Keurig just launched a new brewer—and it's smarter than ever

For a long time, most people had to fiddle with a French press or a drip coffee maker to make to their morning brew—that is, until Keurig changed the game. Keurig machines revolutionized at-home brewing with their innovative pod-operated, single-serve coffee brewer design that allows people to simplify the process and get straight to the cup.

However, the taste can sometimes be a hit-or-miss, as the machine is programmed to brew every K-Cup the exact same way, regardless of roast or flavor. This process led to mediocre coffee that was often under- or over-extracted. Could a smart Keurig—which can detect different coffee labels and automatically customize the brewing ratio—be the answer?

About the Keurig K-Supreme Plus Smart

The app-enabled smart coffee maker can automatically order K-Cups for you.

The Keurig K-Supreme Plus Smart, which is different from the Keurig K-Supreme Plus, is the most recently launched automatic pod coffee maker by Keurig. In the revamped design, the K-Supreme line moved the water tank to the side and made it easier to reach so you don’t have to hover over the machine to refill the reservoir.

The new look is ultra sleek, featuring black stainless steel and an enhanced display screen. In terms of size, it’s comparable to the Keurig Slim, which is significantly smaller than the previous bulky Keurig models.

It’s the first brewer to recognize BrewID, which is a pod recognition technology that can “read” the pods you insert into the brewer head and optimize the extraction time and temperature so that the coffee has the ideal tasting profile for each brand. Among the brands that collaborate with Keurig, you can easily find some of the popular blends sold at coffee shops, such as Starbucks Pike Place and Peet’s Major Dickason.

What I like

The multistream brewhead can significantly increase contact surface between hot water and coffee.

The multistream brewhead makes delicious coffee

In this iteration, the Keurig uses five streams of water instead of one to thoroughly saturate the coffee grounds more evenly with hot water for full flavor and aroma in every cup.

It brews quickly

Unlike other coffee makers that may take a minute to warm up, the K-Supreme line is equipped with instant heating technology that can bring water temperature up in seconds.

The control panel is easy to navigate

It’s pretty on brand with other Keurig single serve coffee makers in that its control panel is intuitive and didn’t take me too much time to start brewing. Besides the presets, customization of the brew size, strength, and temperature can all be done with ease.

K-Cup refills are automatically delivered

One of the advantages of an app-enabled machine is that you can set up auto pod delivery with no extra cost. If you have a busy schedule and don’t always remember to restock your K-cups, the Keurig app will take care of that. Additionally, you can use the app to browse more than 900 varieties of coffee offered by Keurig, which makes shopping a lot easier.

The K-Cups are fully recyclable

The Keurig-branded coffee pods have been fully recyclable since 2020. To recycle the used pods, simply remove the foil cover on the top, dispose of the ground coffee, wash and recycle the plastic cups at your local facility that accepts plastic.

What I don’t like

It's lacking an automatic pod disposal

I wish there was an automatic pod disposal system, which is common among Keurig’s competitors. When I do use pod coffee makers, I like to collect the used pods in one place and do the recycling altogether instead of piecemeal. As it stands, I have to manually take out each pod that’s done brewing and there’s no convenient place to keep them.

How to make iced coffee with Keurig

The K-Supreme Plus Smart has an Iced Coffee preset, which makes brewing pretty straightforward. The preset tells the machine to strengthen the brew, which prevents the ice cubes from diluting the coffee too much. All you need to do is to add ice cubes to your mug and let the coffee maker do the rest of the work.

Should you get the Keurig K-Supreme Plus Smart coffee maker?

You can get discounts on K-Cups if you order them from the Keurig app.

Yes, especially if you’ve been a loyal customer of Keurig and hope to upgrade your coffee experience with customization, quality, and convenience. This Keurig has evolved to be a personal coffee assistant instead of just a coffee maker. Plus, if you use the Keurig app to purchase new pods, you’ll be able to save money on K-Cups through its rewards program.
