Bosch debuted a number of new appliances this week that aim to make living at home more comfortable and efficient.
This isn’t Bosch’s first home appliance rodeo. In fact, this beloved brand is behind some of our favorite kitchen and home appliances, like the Bosch HEI8054U electric range (one of the best we’ve tested) and a plethora of powerhouse dishwashers. Overall, the big trends we’re seeing in the new Bosch products are a focus on smart technology, pro-style kitchen appliances, accessibility, and sustainability, with a sleek, minimalist approach to design.
Here’s everything you need to know about the latest Bosch kitchen and home appliances.
Refrigeration works smarter, not harder
With many homeowners making renovations—big and small—to their kitchens and laundry rooms this year, refrigeration is a much-talked-about trend, whether you’re looking for connectivity, the cleanliness factor, or sleek and unique design.
After getting a first look at Bosch’s 2021 debuts, the brand seems to dip its toe into all of the above.
For example, its brand new 500 Series standard-depth French-door bottom-mount refrigerator now features the QuickIcePro System, which can pump out 40 glasses’ worth of ice per day through a built-in exterior ice and filtered water dispenser. And who doesn’t love ice.
The dispenser also boasts hands-free technology that allows it to remember your favorite water bottle, filling it just so, while you do other things.
Bosch lauds the expansive capacity in the 500 Series standard-depth at 33 inches deep and 70 inches tall, and we are interested to see how it measures up once we get it in the lab—sometimes manufacturer measurements differ a bit from the refrigerator’s actual usable space, although we’re not saying that’s the case here. This fridge is 4 inches deeper than its counter-depth cousin, which, coincidentally, lands at number two on our list of best fridges we’ve ever tested.
Another interesting feature we haven’t seen anywhere else is this fridge’s Garage Shelf, which rolls up and back like its name suggests, for flexible storage options.
Lastly, consumers can reap the benefits of Bosch’s trademark Home Connect smart integration with the 500 Series standard-depth French-door bottom-mount. It will be available on the market by mid 2021.
Bosch 2021 dishwashers consider accessibility
It’s no secret we love Bosch dishwashers here at Reviewed, naming the 800 Series SHPM88Z75N model the best we’ve ever tested and our favorite of 2020. Bosch’s 500 and 300 Series dishwashers also ranked among our top nine.
So, it’s no stretch to say that we are super excited about the brand’s 2021 expansion of its dishwasher portfolio (in 12 models from the 300 to the 800 Series) to include enhanced ADA compliant 18- and 24-inch models fitted with Bosch’s Home Connect that includes hands-free voice control capabilities and Voice Over support.
As far as performance goes, consumers can expect these ADA compliant models to live up to Bosch’s stellar reputation and will feature drying technologies like PureDry that employs a condensation drying technique in the 300 Series, or CrystalDry in the 800 Series, which eliminates the need for air or towel drying.
Not to be an afterthought, design savvy consumers can select among recessed or bar handle options, and finishes including white, black, stainless, and custom.
Look for the 18-inch ADA compliant models in-store available in Q1 and 24-inch in Q2.
Energy Star heralds Bosch’s new laundry lineup
While we haven’t tested as many Bosch washers and dryers as we have dishwashers over the years, we are looking forward to getting our hands on the 500 Series 24-inch compact laundry set, which is part of a lineup for 2021 that has been certified by Energy Star.
What makes this set so special is what the company claims is a completely new innovation for the industry: heat pump drying technology. It’s so great that EnergyStar even recognized this set—washer WAW285H1UC and dryer WTW87NH1UC—as one of its most efficient for 2021.
When compared with the average drying performance of 24-inch ventless, condensate Energy Star certified dryers, Bosch’s heat pump drying technology in the new 500 Series compact laundry set is 60% more efficient. To accomplish this, it does not use a heating element to dry, opting instead to condense water in a closed loop system.
This efficiency line-up also integrates with Home Connect for easier cycle selection, and it allows consumers to monitor their water and energy consumption.
With a nod to sustainability, Anja Prescher, Bosch’s home appliances brand director, says, “We prioritize providing surprisingly simple solutions to customers while never compromising on functionality and efficiency.”
Cooking like a pro at home
Along with its new wall ovens, Bosch is expanding its kitchen appliance line with new industrial-style gas ranges and rangetops. The Bosch 800 Series industrial-style ranges and rangetops offer multiple high efficiency burners, including 18K BTU dual flame ring burners and 77K BTU of power for pro-style performance and restaurant-quality results.
Ideal for pairing with Bosch cooktops and ranges, Bosch vent hoods will be available in the previously offered pro-style (pictured above) as well as the new hidden 300 and 800 Series Cabinet Depth Custom Ventilation Inserts, coming later this year. Bosch will be offering its new 12-inch deep, standard cabinet depth custom ventilation insert in 24-, 30-, and 36-inch options, available in summer of 2021.
Bosch induction cooktops (pictured above) and hoods come equipped with Home Connect smart integration just like Bosch's the technology present in Bosch's new refrigerator, dishwasher and laundry systems. With Home Connect enabled, users can control and adjust settings of matching hoods and cooktops from their smart device.
Barista-quality coffee at home
Last, but certainly not least, is Bosch's built-in coffee machine equipped with Home Connect, which means you'll be able to make your favorite caffeinated beverage with the touch of a button on your smart device or ask Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to whip up that latte for you.
The Home Connect app can provide information about various coffee drinks and coffee bean varieties, including 18 pre-programmed coffee drinks from around the globe (think: cortados). Bosch even has what it calls a Coffee Playlist, enabling users enter up to 20 beverage orders and prepare them one after another with ease to simplify custom coffee orders for when entertaining large crowds is once again possible (remember parties!?).
This innovation isn't new for 2021, but was showcased alongside other Home Connect-enabled products.
