As 2019 comes to an end, we're looking back at what products made the past decade so great. From the cult-favorite AirPods to the trendiest kitchen appliances (looking at you, Instant Pot!), these are the top 10 things from the last 10 years that have changed our lives for the better.
1. Instant Pot
There's an Instant Pot in nearly every kitchen these days—and for good reason. The popular multi-cooker can make a meal that usually takes a full hour in just 20 minutes (and in one convenient appliance!.) It does everything from slow cook to pressure cook to steam. We like the Ultra the best because it has plenty of pre-programmed recipes and cook functions to choose from, along with a display that shows your food's progress as it cooks.
2. A robot vacuum
Vacuuming by hand? That was so last decade. While regular cordless vacuums do still have a time and place, robot vacuums have stolen our hearts. Of all the ones we've tested, we like the iRobot Roomba the best. It has powerful dirt pickup on any type of floor along with the ability to empty itself so you can kick back and relax while it does all of the work.
3. Apple AirPods
AirPods might have been ridiculed when they were first released (to be fair, they do look a little strange) but the iconic white earbuds have quickly become one of the most popular products of the decade. In fact, our experts dubbed them the number one wireless earbuds, thanks to their amazing sound quality, long battery life, and comfortable fit. And if you're willing to splurge, the newest AirPods Pro are even better—arguably the best earbuds that Apple has ever produced.
4. Amazon Echo
Hey Alexa, what's the best smart speaker I can buy? The answer is the 3rd Generation Echo. As the past 10 years saw the rise of the smart home, we've spent hours testing some of the most popular smart speakers. The Echo not only has all of the features you love along with some of the highest sound quality but it also uses far-field voice recognition so you can talk to Alexa even when you're in a different room.
5. An air fryer
Forget greasy fried food and not-so-good-for-you takeout. This decade was all about getting healthier—so it's no surprise that air fryers have been such a big hit. The trendy appliance gives you that delicious fried taste you're craving without all the added fat or oil. Our favorite air fryer is the Philips XXL because it's the most user-friendly and convenient (it doesn't even require preheating) and can whip up family-size portions of tasty, perfectly crispy food in no time.
6. Amazon Kindle
No list of top products would be complete without the Kindle. And the latest model (the Kindle Paperwhite) is by far the best one we've ever used. Lightweight and waterproof, it has 24 different levels of illumination and a higher-resolution display so you can read anytime, anywhere. It also has more storage space than previous models and is compatible with audio so you can stock up on all of your favorite books, audio books, and podcasts.
7. A smart watch
Is there anything the Apple Watch can't do? Not really, which is why it's our experts' top smart watch time and time again. Whether you want to listen to music at the gym, navigate through a crowded city, or simply stay up-to-date on your notifications, it does it all. The Apple Watch is also durable and water-resistant so it will last you for years to come.
8. Away luggage
If you're wondering whether Away luggage, the trendy suitcase that's been all over Instagram the last few years, is worth the hype, the answer is yes. After one of our editors put it to the test, she found that it's equal parts fashion and function. The stylish hard-shell exterior (which comes in colors like blush pink and sand) holds up well during travel and the suitcase has plenty of useful features, including a compression panel, a built-in charging station, and spinner wheels.
Netflix, Hulu, HBO, oh my! More and more people are cutting the cord, which means more and more people are turning to streaming services. That's why the Roku is in such high demand. Chosen as our top streaming device, the Roku Ultra supports 4K and HDR along with all of the major services (including Apple TV) and has the easiest-to-use remote that you can even control with your voice. A.k.a your next Netflix binge-watching just got a lot better.
10. Apple iPad
It's hard to remember a time when iPads didn't exist—but it wasn't all that long ago. The popular tablet came out in 2010 and 10 years later, is still one of the most wished-for gifts this holiday season. The latest iPad Pro, with a larger, clearer display and tons of added features (including touch sign-in), is just as powerful as most laptops, but without the bulk and weight.
