The Hisense HRM260N6TSE is one of the best fridges you can buy at this price point.
Dispensers: Through-the-door ice and water dispenser
Finish: Stainless steel
The Hisense HRM260N6TSE 4-door French-door refrigerator is one of the best values you can buy for a refrigerator of this quality.
Among our favorite features of this fridge are its steady temperatures, versatile storage options, LED lighting, and smart features. This Hisense refrigerator has above-average storage capacity and crispers that excel at keeping veggies fresh. It also has a through-the-door water and ice dispenser, which is an incredible value at this price point.
We love the separate flexible-temperature drawer, which can be set to your desired temperature (between 27°F and 41°F) and has a divider for organizing the space. While it doesn't get cold enough to freeze solid, this flex drawer makes it easy to accommodate everything from meat and poultry to beverages, snacks, party trays, and wine.
If you're looking for a top-performing fridge that won't break the bank, the Hisense HRM260N6TSE is the best fridge we've tested this year.
The Bosch B36FD50SNS French-door refrigerator is nearly perfect. Fridge and freezer temperatures are exactly spot on and perfectly consistent. Both offer more storage than typical French-door refrigerators.
Its crispers hold humidity perfectly. It has a through-the-door water and ice dispenser. We love its sleek, stainless steel finish. Our only critique is that its shelves only have lips to capture spills in the front, not the sides or back.
This fridge costs a little more than the average French-door fridge, but between its excellent performance, great features, and Bosch’s strong warranty, it’s worth the price.
Depth: Standard depth (also available in counter-depth)
Dispensers: Internal ice and water
Finish: Platinum glass
If you're looking for a 4-door refrigerator, the Café CAE28DM5TS5 is one of the best options available right now. It comes with a ton of helpful features, keeps its temperatures consistent, and feels great to use.
Like most 4-door refrigerators, the two lower compartments are separated into a dedicated freezer and a flex compartment that’s capable of a few different temperature ranges: freezer (-6°F to 5°F), refrigerator (34°F to 40°F), and chiller (41°F to 43°F). This custom-temperature zone helps you adapt to different storage needs and is one of the main reasons to invest in a 4-door fridge like this.
In addition to excellent temperature and crisper performance, this fridge is also packed with lots of extra features that elevate the experience. The entire back wall is a mosaic LED light panel that beautifully illuminates the fridge interior, and the accompanying app can send you notifications if the door is left open for too long.
The internal auto-fill water pitcher/dispenser is a great alternative to a through-the-door dispenser, and the ice maker is capable of holding up to 12.5 lbs of ice, so you'll always be well-stocked for parties.
On top of everything, this fridge's user experience is simply excellent, the drawers slide smoothly, and the fixtures feel robust and durable. You spend a lot of time using your fridge, so it's wonderful to encounter a model that delivers a high-end experience without any design quirks or friction.
Overall, while the Café CAE28DM5TS5 is on the expensive side, if you're in the market for a 4-door fridge with a top-of-the-line feel, this is one of the top performers out there and well worth the investment.

The Lowe’s-exclusive Hisense HRB171N6ASE bottom-freezer fridge is a high-value, low-cost refrigerator. It has remarkable temperature consistency for its price range and notable energy efficiency, even compared to other counter-depth fridges.
Bright lighting, digital controls, and adjustable shelves add ease of use to this bottom-freezer model. The single door has several bins for organization, including one that can hold gallon jugs.
In our testing, we noted that the Hisense HRB171N6ASE needs to be properly calibrated out of the box, as the unit we received ran a bit too warm. However, a quick adjustment got it on track, and from there it maintained the set temperature with accuracy.
The only downside we see is the single crisper drawer, which makes organization a bit of a challenge. Even with that, the Hisense HRB171N6ASE offers impressive performance for its purchase price. If you’re looking to pick up a counter-depth, bottom-freezer fridge on a budget, the HRB171N6ASE is a solid choice.
Depth: Standard depth (also available in counter-depth)
Dispensers: Internal ice and water
Finishes: Bespoke white glass, stainless steel
The Samsung Bespoke RS28CB7600 Side-by-side refrigerator is one of the better side-by-sides we've tested. It excels in our performance tests, has a ton of storage, and comes equipped with a beverage center.
The only minor downside? Its crispers don't retain humidity well. If you rely on your crispers to keep your veggies fresh, this fridge may not be your best bet.
If you're in the market for a side-by-side, there are few fridges out there better than this one.
If you’re looking for a traditional top-freezer fridge, the Hotpoint HPS16BTNRWW refrigerator is a good option. Unlike most lower-cost fridges, this Hotpoint doesn’t skimp on temperature performance. Its fridge and freezer temperatures stray by less than 2°F in total.
Still, the features are as minimal as you’d expect based on its style and price tag. Its freezer also runs a bit warm before calibration, though that’s an easy fix.
Looking for a top-freezer fridge in this price range will require compromises. In this case, those compromises are tiny compared to the ratio of price to performance.
The Frigidaire Gallery Quattro GRQC2255BF 4-door French door is the best refrigerator we've tested to date.
One of the most impressive abilities of this fridge is keeping temperatures within a fraction of a degree of their target. It accomplishes this over time and throughout each of its compartments.
Typically fridge's temperatures can fluctuate due to defrost cycles or opening the door to grab something. Thanks to its TwinTech cooling system, the GRQC2255BF can adapt quickly to any changes in temperature. This is, by far, the best temperature performance we've ever recorded.
The Frigidaire Gallery Quattro GRQC2255BF Refrigerator doesn't stop with near-perfect temperatures. When it comes to extra features, the GRQC2255BF Refrigerator has just about everything you'd expect from a high-end fridge. It has a water dispenser, a custom-temperature compartment located next to its freezer, and custom storage.
The GRQC2255BF offers great value for its price, both in terms of its raw performance and its overall usability. If you want to buy the best of the best, the Frigidaire Gallery Quattro GRQC2255BF is it.
Depth: Standard depth (also available in counter-depth)
Dispensers: Through-the-door ice and water

The GE Café CVE28DM5NS5 French-door refrigerator doubles as a statement piece. It features a shiny platinum glass finish, shelves with rose gold accents, and LED lights gently backlighting the interior walls. But this fridge backs up its form with function.
It has spot-on temperature control, a wide variety of flexible, adjustable storage, and a highly effective crisper drawer.
An extra temperature-controlled drawer offers bonus storage. You can use this space as a fridge or a freezer. The freezer boasts an extra rack that’s perfect for flat foods like pizzas.
Another great feature is Autofill. It’s a water dispenser that senses the height of your water vessel and fills it up without overflowing.
This fridge is expensive, but if it’s within your budget, the GE CVE28DM5NS5 offers you great looks and utility.
Depth: Counter-depth (also available in standard depth)
Dispensers: AutoFill water pitcher, internal push dispenser, dual ice maker
Finishes: Stainless steel
The Samsung Bespoke RF23DB9700QL is a counter-depth 4‑door French‑door refrigerator that blends sleek aesthetics with functional innovation, including customizable door panels and ADA‑compliant Auto Open Door sensors that ease access.
We love the dedicated door‑in‑door Beverage Zone equipped with an Auto‑Fill water pitcher and drip‑free dispenser. The dual ice maker in the freezer produces both cubes and Samsung’s proprietary Ice Bites, while a versatile FlexZone next door converts between fridge and freezer modes via five preset temperature options.
The RF23DB9700QL also integrates with Samsung’s SmartThings app for remote monitoring, temperature control, and energy‑saving AI Energy Mode.
While there’s a lot we liked about this quad-style fridge, lab tests revealed some temperature fluctuations in the main compartment—occasional spikes above 40 °F and a small window of variability—though still within food safety limits. Cleaning can be cumbersome due to challenging-to-remove shelves, and we found that the internal control panel is small and slow to navigate compared to the app interface.
Still, if you value flexibility, beverage-focused features, and style—and can tolerate minor quirks—the RF23DB9700QL delivers a premium fridge experience for its price point.
Finishes: White glass, charcoal glass, matte gray glass, Morning Blue glass, clementine glass, pink glass, Sunrise Yellow glass, stainless steel, matte black steel, navy steel, Tuscan steel, emerald green steel
The Samsung Bespoke RF29BB8600AP French-door refrigerator is pricier than some of its peers, but backs that up with great performance and singular looks.
The fridge has excellent temperature performance, and its freezer is no slouch, either. Features include an internal ice and water dispenser and a flex drawer for adaptable storage. There’s also a door-in-door design that provides easy access to your door bins and prevents cold air from escaping.
Of course, the main reason to buy a Bespoke appliance is the slew of custom options. The wide list of glass or steel finishes to choose from keeps growing, almost ensuring you’ll find the perfect look.
Dispensers: Through-the-door ice and filtered water dispenser
Finishes: Black stainless steel, stainless steel
The Frigidaire Gallery GRMC2273CF may be the pick for you if you’re looking for a French door fridge with plenty of storage space.
While the GRMC2273CF does feature a counter-depth design, it manages to use the space it does have incredibly well. There’s more fridge storage space in this fridge than in some full-size models.
The GRMC2273CF French-door refrigerator also provides some excellent custom features. This lets you conform the space to your specific needs.
It has sliding door bins and folding shelves that can move to make way for taller objects stored underneath.
There’s also a storage area called the Snack Zone, which is low enough for kids to reach. Lastly, there’s a custom-temperature drawer that sets anywhere from freezing to 45°F for chilling wine.
The GRMC2273CF French-door refrigerator excels in most other areas as well. Modern Frigidaire fridges use a new air circulation technology called TwinTech cooling system. It keeps temperatures consistent throughout its compartments as well as over time.
Samsung RF90F29AECR Bespoke 4-Door with AI Family Hub+ & AI Vision

Depth: Standard (full) depth (also available in standard-depth)
Dispensers: Internal water and ice dispensers

This 28.6-cubic-foot-capacity Samsung RF90F29AECR smart refrigerator combines a spacious interior with a tech-forward design. The FlexZone drawer between the fridge and freezer provides customizable temperature settings to store a range of food types, while Samsung’s signature Beverage Center offers quick access to filtered water through an internal dispenser and auto-refilling pitcher.
The freezer drawer includes a dual ice maker with cubed ice and Samsung’s proprietary, fast-chilling Ice Bites. Added conveniences like Auto-Open fridge doors and slide-in shelf further enhance everyday usability.
The truly unique feature of this fridge is its Family Hub+: the 32-inch, Wi-Fi-enabled touchscreen built into the righthand fridge door. This smart screen can be used for everything from accessing recipes to sharing photos, streaming content, and controlling other smart-home devices.
The RF90F29AECR is also equipped with Samsung's AI Vision Inside, which intends to identify items as they’re moved in and out of the fridge to improve food management, although when we previously tested this feature we found it occasionally inaccurate and a bit cumbersome to manage.
The Family Hub+ and AI Vision Inside also connect with the SmartThings app which allows you to check your fridge contents from your phone, as well as receive monitoring and maintenance alerts.
While the touchscreen and smart features may be a bit much for some people, this Samsung French-door fridge brings convenience and performance along with its advanced technology.
A new fridge is one of the biggest investments you make in the daily life of your kitchen. Here are some things to know before purchasing your new kitchen appliance.
Styles of refrigerators
A refrigerator is one of the most used appliances in any kitchen, so the form may matter significantly to you. Here are the four main types of refrigerators and some of the benefits and drawbacks of each:
French-door refrigerators: The most popular style of fridge in the U.S., French-door fridges feature dual fridge doors above a sliding freezer drawer, which is typically divided into multiple levels. Some also include an additional drawer between the fridge and freezer, which is usually a flexible temperature zone. French-door fridges keep fresh food at eye level and typically offer extensive organizational storage options. Quad-style French-door refrigerators have also gained popularity recently. This style replaces the freezer drawer with two doors, like a side-by-side model.
Side-by-side refrigerators: These fridges, which typically position the freezer on the left and refrigerator on the right in a one-third/two-thirds configuration, can often fit in spaces with less clearance for French doors. This style often has more technical freezer capacity, although the narrow shelving presents problems for storing items like pizza boxes and baking trays.
Top freezer refrigerators: This traditional style i s efficient and inexpensive but tends to have fewer features and weaker aesthetics. While top-freezer refrigerators keep the freezer at eye level, you’ll have to bend over to see and reach the lower shelves in the fridge. Storage and organization are typically less efficient than in other fridge styles.
Bottom freezer refrigerator: These fridges are the reverse of a top freezer, with a single refrigerator door rather than French doors. This puts your fresh food at eye level, and typically comes with better organizational options. The freezer pulls out like a drawer rather than a swinging door. This style typically has more freezer storage space and better organization, but you’ll have to bend over to access it.
Usable space vs. total capacity
One of the most common refrigerator specs is the total capacity in cubic feet. Unfortunately, a higher capacity doesn’t necessarily mean more storage space.
Shelves, drawers, and ice makers can eat into a fridge’s capacity. That’s why we measure usable space—how much room is actually available to store your food and drinks.
Measuring, delivery, installation, and haul-away
If you’re looking to fit your new fridge into an existing enclosure, then getting the right measurements is crucial. The old adage about measuring twice applies to refrigerators. It would be terrible if you had to hire a contractor just to get your new fridge to fit into your kitchen.
Don’t forget to measure for door clearance, both at the hinges and at the full depth of the door, and to measure your home’s entry and doorways to ensure your desired fridge will fit upon delivery. Most delivery services will hook up the water line if the fridge has water and ice dispensers, but always check to make sure.
Haul-away services for your old fridge are often included with the delivery but may incur a small fee. Always have a plan to dispose of an old appliance before scheduling delivery of the new one.
Water and ice dispensers
Through-the-door water and ice dispensers used to be the most common configuration, especially for French-door and side-by-side models, but our research has found that in-door ice dispensers have more service issues than internal ice-makers. Internal water dispensers—typically accessed on the inside wall of the fridge—take up less space than those built into the fridge door.
Another popular solution from manufacturers like Samsung, GE, and Café is the in-door beverage center with water dispenser and auto-fill pitcher. By keeping the ice-making in the freezer, manufacturers not only improve storage space, but can offer multiple types of ice, like Samsung’s dual ice maker with cubes and Ice Bites.
Don’t forget to factor in filter replacement costs, and put reorders on a schedule to keep up with necessary maintenance.
Smart tech features
Refrigerators with Wi-Fi connectivity are increasingly commonplace and can now do far more than send an alert when the fridge or freezer door is left open too long. Connected apps can help keep track of your fridge contents, adjust temperatures ahead of a big grocery trip, and send important maintenance alerts.
Some refrigerators also come equipped with a touchscreen, which you can use for everything from accessing recipes to streaming TV, movies, or music. These high-tech fridges also connect to voice assistants such as Alexa and Google Home.
Finish, build quality, and warranty
Stainless steel (typically fingerprint-resistant) has become the most common finish for kitchen appliances, but it isn’t the only option by far. The refrigerators on this list come in everything from stainless-steel and black stainless to white glass, even custom-colored panels. You can now choose the aesthetic that’s right for your kitchen, even if it isn’t stainless steel or bright white.
The build quality often goes hand-in-hand with the finish, and budget may dictate what you can afford, but some affordable brands are known for being particularly durable, like GE and Bosch. Look for models with comfortable, sturdy handles. Consider the type of hinges and ensure the doors open properly into your space.
Warranty is typically one year for parts and labor, but some brands offer 5- to 10-year warranties on compressors, converters, or other sealed elements.
FAQ: What To Know About Refrigerators
How Does a Refrigerator Work?
Refrigerators pull in air and cool it down to temperatures cold enough to preserve food and limit bacterial growth. This is usually around 37°F. This cooling method means that fridges are very sensitive to air conditions.
In hot weather, the condenser and cooling coils have to work harder to cool the warmer air. In cold weather, the fridge condenser may not even turn on.
What Temperature Should a Refrigerator Be?
Ideally, your fridge should be exactly 37°F and your freezer should be 0°F.
If your fridge drops to 32°F—just 5°F below the ideal temperature—some food in your refrigerator will start to freeze. On the other hand, temperatures of 40°F and higher are dangerous. That's the temperature at which bacteria start to proliferate quickly.
If your freezer gets warmer than 0°F, it means your food isn't being truly frozen. Furthermore, consistency is key: if temperatures in your freezer bounce around, freezer burn can become a huge issue.
How Long Do Refrigerators Last?
While the lifespan of any appliance can vary wildly due to several factors, you should expect your fridge to last about 10 years.
Most manufacturers will at least cover the first year in a refrigerator warranty. Some companies will offer more robust programs that will cover specific parts up to five years, 10 years, or for the lifetime of the product.
